Are there quest markers and a minimap?

no minimap... There are quest markers only if you open the map (which is a physical map you have to find that he holds) manually. they go away the second you close the map.

there are paint slops and popups to navigate you through the maps, it is pure hand holding

I think it depends on difficulty setting, I have nothing yellow on levels, playing with moderate difficulty.
