Guys my game didn't even launched due to low video memory (VRam). I have RTX 2060 6GB btw so below minimal requirements. So I played for an hour and then suddenly my game couldn't even open with "failed to allocate video memory" text. Here is a solution for anyone struggling maybe it will help because it helped me: You have to manually add The Great Circle (maybe nvidia will support it in the future) to the program list (a game list that Nvidia app optimizes) in Nvidia App. Yes that's all and I know that sounds stupid but it works for me, no more "failed..." text. I didn't change anything else. Good luck maybe it will help someone.

Had the same. It worked! Thank you.

downgrade to 565.90 driver and you will bypass the error message

What is the value for minimum size? It won't let you set it without a value for minimum

If you have 16gb set it to 24,576mb
if you have 32gb set it to 49,152mb

Rolling back to graphics driver to 565.90 seemed to work for me though (RTX 2060 6Gb)

For those of you who applied the fixes, you might have a corrupted save file. For me, I could get to the start screen, but then I received the error: "Failed to allocate video memory." After applying all the fixes mentioned here, it still wouldn't work because the save data was corrupted. Perhaps putting it in safe mode and starting over from the beginning might resolve the issue. I played all day today with no problems after doing this

I solved the problem by uninstalling video driver, and reverting back to the driver before that one.

If you have 6GB VRAM that's below min spec. Maybe that changes in the future but for now 8GB VRAM is min spec.

Set the “Texture pool size” setting to low, you have an overflow of video memory.

Hey, this is very helpful. I was getting a black screen on launch and could not save my settings. After deleting "TheGreatCircleConfig.local" found here:

C:\Users\<yourname>\Saved Games\MachineGames\TheGreatCircle\base

It worked. I went in and made sure to lower the "texture pool size setting" and am ok so far. This setting is also present in that file, but I wasn't sure what value to input. I may make a post about this.

Drop back to Nvidia driver 566.12, that should do the trick

driver 566.36 is problematic. I never tried the hot fix, just rolled back and the failed to allocate video memory error went away

I cant get this to load at all, just a black screen and the 'failed to allocate video memory' message. I've tried each of the solutions in this discussion but no luck. I've set the Nvidia graphics settings to performance, but i dont know how to drop back to an earlier driver. the option for that is greyed out in devices.
My Rig is:
Windows 11, Driver 533.36, Ram 8GB, RTX 3050 Laptop GPU.

the 3050 is well below minimum requirements

The minimum requirement as posted by IGN is RTX 2060
