This is why I have the game on ignore.
Game studios are full of bright haired people. Doesn't make the game anything like their politics. They're told what to do by game producers.
This is classic Indiana Jones.
Good will goes a long way, and Disney is pretty much depleted from it.
Its THEIR job to make people wanna buy the game, and having a guy that looks like the typical activist ramble about Modern Audience is one of the worst ways to go about it, specially now.
We already saw how much people despise this on this year alone:
Suicide Squad
Concord
Dustborn
SW Outlaws (and Acolyte)
Veilgard
AC Shadows
Awakening 9
All failures, yeah AC Shadwos hasnt come out, but we already seen the overwhelmingly bad reception it has gotten due to the way it was promoted and how much it disrespects Japanese culture.
Could also add Intergalactic there as well, ND ruined their reputation with TLOU2, and it shows how much they threw away their good will by how the game was received by that terrible trailer that has a mediocre design for its MC that already made her come off has a smug, annoying "girl boss" that people are tired of.
Transformers ONE, an animated movie that had an atrocious marketing that made most people disregard the movie as just comic relief slop.
Only for the movie to not be that at all, and in fact being one of the best Transformer movies, easily outdoing all the live action ones, but the terrible trailers did the movie dirty.
I wait for games to come out and play the ones that look fun. I don’t care about pre release marketing or YT culture war content made for clicks.
If you mess that up, its gonna HURT sales.
Ok, well, I stand by my original statement of perhaps the lesson here for gamers is to ignore all that crap.
No, the lesson is absolutely to stop judging games by an 8 second quote in the middle of a 13 minute showcase 11 months before launch. "Modern audience" is the correct term to use, they're making a game for people in 2024 not for people in 1981. You want a flop? Make an action game designed exclusively for people in their 50s. Nobody would have even noticed that quote if it wasn't made by a guy with a silly haircut and a pride flag on his shirt. You aren't judging the game, you're judging one guy who worked on it.
"Go woke go broke" is a myth. Games like Cyberpunk, Hades, and Baldur's Gate 3 are a thousand times more woke than half the games that went "broke," and had tons of criticism thrown at them until they became incredibly successful so they're ignored because they contradict the narrative. Usually under some excuse that they don't "shove it down your throat" even though nobody can ever explain what that means.
The ONLY way to judge it's success is by the numbers playing it on Game Pass ....... I have several friends playing the game but none of them bought it on Steam so they don't show up in the Steam numbers
That out of the way, I wouldn't blame the 4th movie as much. Honestly it got way more hate than it deserved. It was closer to Indy than the 5th movie was. I watched it. I tried to enjoy it. But it just felt so forced. The 4th at least had some fun parts in it.
The last movie though, that was atrocious
