The game that was done dirty.
From what many have said, the game is genuinely good, which is unfortunate cause its clearly doing poorly based on numbers, and we have several reasons for it.

The movies: the 4th and 5th movies damaged the reputation of the franchise, specially the last one which nobody liked, and that was nearly a decade after the 4th movie, which did not help.

Disney's reputation: After how awful they have handled the Star Wars and even the Indiana Jones IP, people didnt had much hope for this game (plus all the awful live action remakes nobody wanted)

The guy with the stupid haircut: Arguably the primary reason people disregarded the game and called it woke, rightfully so, when you have this guy with a really dumb haircut rambling about the "modern audience" its gonna be a massive turn off and a red flag for people, they are FED UP with the myth of the modern audience, and several games tied to those magic words were failures, specially the last movie.

Low Marketing: The second main reason, im actually struggling to even remember any other trailer besides the one from the event, and the one with that stupid haircut, i feel Disney just didnt care about promoting the game, which hurt its potential even further, when the main trailer most people knew about was about how the game was for the "modern audience", the game stood no chance.

Its kinda sad really, this is a game that deserved better but was sabotaged by past history and poor marketing, i myself lost all interest the moment i saw that guy with the awful haircut (have i made it clear enough i hate his hair?) and he mentioned the modern audience, now seeing how REAL players are giving it good reviews and recommending it, i feel like trying it myself, i loved the first 3 movies and even the LEGO games back in the day, so knowing a new good Indiana Jones game exist is great, but again, the game was sadly done dirty and will likely underperform.

To the gamers who like me, lost all interest cause of that one moron with the hair, give this a try, like i said, REAL gamers are positive on this game, and no im no talking about the losers Mainstream Journos, nobody care about their opinion.

Well, it is your loss, really. The game is great.

there is a long history of how Disney intentionally destroyed their old IP, there is an old interview with Lucas and Spielberg where they mentioned their copy girl had "good ideas" and was promptly ignored -- that copy girl was Kathleen Kennedy, she is intentionally destroying Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

Game studios are full of bright haired people. Doesn't make the game anything like their politics. They're told what to do by game producers.

This is classic Indiana Jones.

Maybe there is a lesson there about not pre-judging games because you don’t like the haircut of a single person that worked on it.

No, the lesson is learning how to promote the game, by starting by abandoning the idea of a "Modern Audience" that doesnt exist.

Good will goes a long way, and Disney is pretty much depleted from it.

Its THEIR job to make people wanna buy the game, and having a guy that looks like the typical activist ramble about Modern Audience is one of the worst ways to go about it, specially now.

We already saw how much people despise this on this year alone:

Suicide Squad
Concord
Dustborn
SW Outlaws (and Acolyte)
Veilgard
AC Shadows
Awakening 9

All failures, yeah AC Shadwos hasnt come out, but we already seen the overwhelmingly bad reception it has gotten due to the way it was promoted and how much it disrespects Japanese culture.

Could also add Intergalactic there as well, ND ruined their reputation with TLOU2, and it shows how much they threw away their good will by how the game was received by that terrible trailer that has a mediocre design for its MC that already made her come off has a smug, annoying "girl boss" that people are tired of.

Hell now that i think about it something similar happened recently:

Transformers ONE, an animated movie that had an atrocious marketing that made most people disregard the movie as just comic relief slop.

Only for the movie to not be that at all, and in fact being one of the best Transformer movies, easily outdoing all the live action ones, but the terrible trailers did the movie dirty.

I wait for games to come out and play the ones that look fun. I don’t care about pre release marketing or YT culture war content made for clicks.

I was really apprehensive about this game, and it definitely does have some cringe moments, but overall it was a solid game and a great adaptation of Indy in a video game. I'm bummed that I've finished it.

Maybe you dont, but like i said earlier, the trailers are meant to hype people and sell the game.

If you mess that up, its gonna HURT sales.

Ok, well, I stand by my original statement of perhaps the lesson here for gamers is to ignore all that crap.

No, the lesson is absolutely to stop judging games by an 8 second quote in the middle of a 13 minute showcase 11 months before launch. "Modern audience" is the correct term to use, they're making a game for people in 2024 not for people in 1981. You want a flop? Make an action game designed exclusively for people in their 50s. Nobody would have even noticed that quote if it wasn't made by a guy with a silly haircut and a pride flag on his shirt. You aren't judging the game, you're judging one guy who worked on it.

"Go woke go broke" is a myth. Games like Cyberpunk, Hades, and Baldur's Gate 3 are a thousand times more woke than half the games that went "broke," and had tons of criticism thrown at them until they became incredibly successful so they're ignored because they contradict the narrative. Usually under some excuse that they don't "shove it down your throat" even though nobody can ever explain what that means.

When a game releases Day One on Game Pass the Steam numbers are largely irrelevant to it's actual success.

The ONLY way to judge it's success is by the numbers playing it on Game Pass ....... I have several friends playing the game but none of them bought it on Steam so they don't show up in the Steam numbers

Ill be honest. I like the game. I so far think its good and well done over all. Gina is annoying as a character but Indy is pretty decently done.

That out of the way, I wouldn't blame the 4th movie as much. Honestly it got way more hate than it deserved. It was closer to Indy than the 5th movie was. I watched it. I tried to enjoy it. But it just felt so forced. The 4th at least had some fun parts in it.

Yeah the 4h movie had its moments but it was still mediocre.

The last movie though, that was atrocious
