Ernesto refusing to sell the camera

I have 1179 lire, 800 more than needed for the camera, but Ernesto keeps telling me that I don't have enough. What, other that he can't count, is the issue here and does anybody know how to get around it? (Windows version, if that is necessary.)

And you've done the quest where you can buy it? Like it's sitting there? Do you have the quest "buy the camera" active?

I got it now, but the "trick" was something weird. I set an alternate key for use/pick up and pressed both at the same time. That bought the camera.

Worst part? I have played a second set already into the Vatican.

Ah, it probably conflicted with something. I had a similar thing just now the first time I wanted to revisit an old place - that is hardcoded to 'R', but I had bound something else to 'R' that took priority.
