Who's using HDR?

I'm kinda going back and forth on HDR in this game. It absolutely adds a lot of depth and nice highlights, but it is also one of the dimmer games I've seen (on a good OLED don't at me about nits) and the blacks are absolutely raised into grey a lot of the time. SDR mode is much more high contrast.

Just curious what others decided on.

I think every game in windows requires to toggle HDR on in the game options.
All the HDR games also require the windows HDR mode on before you turn the ingame HDR on.
only exception that i know to this rule is ME Andromeda which had HDR that turned windows HDR on by itself while ingame so you did not toggle HDR on before starting the game.

Btw if you want to experience best HDR on PC there are games like Cyberpunk 2077 [best HDR implementation I ever saw] and Horizon games [forbidden west and zero dawn]
Absolute magic.

I never turn on HDR for games. One less variable to impact performance. I mainly just care about keeping framerate at or above 120.

It has a minimal effect on performance. Not even framerate I don't think, just a tiny extra bit of latency. I get 120fps locked in Indiana Jones either way.

I feel like it's been pretty much perfectly fine on my LG C2 in HGiG mode and calibrated using the Windows HDR Calibration tool.

Also, the guy above that doesn't use HDR for performance reasons has clearly never used HDR.

HDR in this game looks terrible. Enabled it and all the characters in cutscenes have super reflective eyes, like bright white reflections. Too distracting

Yeah, I didn't know that was an HDR issue until pretty far in. Annoying for sure. That plus the much greyer blacks make for an SDR win I think.

Even these two (CP and HFW) I didn't think were that impressive. Definitely better than anything else, agreed, but compared to how much movies pop on an HDR-TV, video games on an HDR-monitor are... okay?

It's an upgrade, but such a minor one. And considering how buggy it is in many games I just leave it off. :<

Who can really tell, its your eyes :)
But yeah, if its about same price why not. Just keep in mind that HDR isn't one set standard.

An OLED is ABSOLUTELY worth it. Pure black is a huge boon to videogames, as is infinite contrast. Huge, huge upgrade.

The HDR that comes with an OLED... ehhhh. As Carighan said above it is nice in some games but a lot of the time it's a sidegrade or even a downgrade. It's easy to test back and forth in-game though and decide which you prefer.

But getting an OLED in general I highly recommend.

My advice is to look into Lilliam's HDR effects for reshade. There's some great tools like tone mapping, etc. Unfortunately I have to use it with many games to get the tone mapping just right. I'm sure it would help you with your issue.

It looks alright for me except for the super shiny eyes thing. Not as dynamic like some games thought.

Maybe it's because I'm a movie fan where there's a scientific and objective standard, but I'm just not into putzing around with brightness and color and whatnot and estimating how the game should look. I have a calibrated OLED with proper gamma and I want to see the game as devs designed it on similar hardware.

I'm playing on an LG 38WN95CP Ultra-Wide monitor and HDR looks absolutely stunning in this game! Especially in Gizeh where you can really feel the heat and the brightness of the sun being reflected by the stones und rocks. It's a game changer for me. If you have not seen it you won't understand it but if I turn back on normal mode after having played on HDR it looks boring - like someone has switched the real sun off and replaced it by a dim light.
