What is this games supposed to be?
I got interested in this game due to path tracing, checked some reviews which did not seem too bad and said it captures the spirit of original Indiana Jones movies.

Here are my two cents:
+ It really feels like Indiana Jones
+ Dialog, voice acting, sounds are good
+/- Graphics is acceptable, but slow. PT makes it ok, otherwise, I'd say dull.
- Controls are... As an example, Shoot and reload in same button? Reload only works if you look at certain direction (can't aim, can't look down, or either shoots or wont happen)
- Sidekick runs through doors without problem, so bugs...
- I ran through first major enemy (bug)
- It is like an interactive movie. At some point you just move forward. Had unfinished things to do in previous area? Tough luck...
- You can not have more bullets than weapon has room in clip, but still bullets are available in boxes?

Sometimes feels like an interactive movie.

I generally rate games in "do I regret buying this game or not". Had I payed this myself, yes, but I got this as a part of a present.

It is not a terrible game and could be some fun at a reasonable price, but controls and kind of empty world and basically having no clear direction what to do in what is not an open world game... just does not seem like great fun. After having played enough hours of this, I think I just go back to finishing Forbidden West and then to GoW Ragnarok. Maybe I return to this game after those.

Some people likely disagree with how I feel about this game and that is ok and this is a matter of opinion. I do enjoy the atmosphere of original Indiana Jones movies and the characters and the voice acting, but the controls.. and the mixture of you don't have the openness of choice of open world games, but you also are not given a path, clear enough to follow, like in for example Uncharted or Tomb Raider.

The collectibles are weird. Like picking up food recipes. Completely pulls me out of the experience.
It's basically a first-person adventure, with stealth and combat sprinkled here and there and a heavy emphasis on puzzles and exploration.

No, you can always revisit previous locations via the journal. There's even a small side quest I found that practically requires you to do so.

Have you tried looking at your map? It highlights where you're meant to go for your current quest as well as putting a marker onto the screen for you to follow.

To have more bullets you need to find books for this ability

In fairness, Indy does usually give you a verbal warning that the next sequence will complete the campaign for that area and move you to the next, although it was sometimes subtle.

Also, as others mentioned, you can return to any area at any time via the journal and travels tab.

Also, after completing the game you can go back and try to find / complete anything you missed.

Recipes are strange sure, but the relics?

Think of Uncharted treasures you find all individually modelled with information on them.

Kind of disappointing the relics in Indy are generic and uninteresting.

Well, those relics are actively used to try and solve the big optional puzzle in the last level (which I'm still working on). So while generic looking, they are functional.

The handful of lost artifacts in each of the larger areas are more along the lines of what you mentioned about Uncharted treasures.

Good reminder, I also haven't solved this, yet. Do you know if all relics which can be collected are required for this, or is a subset sufficient? Because I am still missing a couple of them.

I'm kind of curious about that myself as I haven't solved that one yet. I'm unsure if you need all the relics to complete all four of those socket puzzles at the end or if you just need to be smart / more efficient about how you place the relics. I did experiment a bit and I was able to improve on how many relics it took me to complete some of those puzzles, but I still ran out before I completed the fourth one.

I'm currently backtracking through other areas trying to get the last of the relics anyway, so hopefully I'll have all I need.

Thank you, I will then also go and collect all the remaining relics first.
