so i have 2 computers i can play this game on.
one at home i get to use on weekends due to time constraints.
one at work, mostly leave the game running and play when it is quiet. about 7 hours of my current play time the game was paused.

anyways went to play today after the new update (home pc) and the game wont start.
tells me that my save file is damaged and or corrupted, remote accessed work pc and the game runs fine same update.

deleted save games, both in program files and c users.
verified game install
reinstalled the game.
tried to transfer saves from other pc to this one.
nothing is working.

since you will likely ask for specs.

this game ran fine up until this update. so any suggestions would be appreciated, as i dont want to restart the game if i know the save still works. this is a legit copy and same steam id.

That sounds like a recipe for disaster.

As long as your cloud saving, it should work between both computers.

But what's with the 7 hours on pause? Not good.

I had this happen to me the other day. Try loading the game from the other computer that still has the functional save, and if it loads normally, then copy the save game offline and copy and overwrite the data in the other computer where the save was corrupted.

Basically you need to preserve the save game from the computer that works as sacred.

In my case, I copied everything from the steam remote folder, which includes the profile folder and the individual save slots. You also have to overwrite everything including the files and folders.

The last bit is to check for folder permissions because of your windows have slightly different folder ownership that may prevent the files from being read by the other computer.

Haha true I do afk alot... But if a customer comes in the store then they get help long before I get to resume my game.

I did fix it though.

I had to reset all saves aka save over my game with a fresh one.
Then go (remote) to my other PC and restore last save.
It's an annoyance but hey I got to start from where I left off.

Yes I have to afk alot I think half my playtime for horizon forbidden West was afk.

Also I am more of a binge gamer. Play alot for a couple days then get busy and forget for a couple weeks... Or months, then come back and pickup the game to finish it.

Same problem but with my steamdeck. Suddenly the save file is reported as damaged on the steamdeck but loads completely fine on my main PC. The version of the game is the same across both machines. Annoying. I will try copying the save files directly from the PC, will see how it goes.

Probably have to fully close the game for cloud gaming to actually upload the save to cloud

It seems that they just fixed the issue with the latest patch 1.2. Indeed, it fixed the problem for me.

Happened to me, but I found a way to get them back through reddit. Start a new game, walk up to the cut scene where the bats scare one of the npcs. Quit back to the main menu, go to load state and it'll only show your new save and two empty slots, but there is a rollback icon at the bottom of the same screen, which will show you your old save states (three in total)that you can "roll back" to...
Had to play Shanghai mission again which is barely 15 minutes. Just got my 18 hours save back.

Had the same problem where I lost my whole game progress. I am playing through Game Pass on PC. Managed to fix the issue by starting a new game and playing until the guy runs away from the bats. Then select save slot and roll back the save. You will lose some progress but not the whole thing.
