This game is fantastic but the enemy Ai is atroscious
I know this is the new norm for AAA games, but good lord the Ai is awful. Hiding bodies is a useless mechanic because nothing of actual consequence happens if a body is found. This isn't unique to this game but if I'm sneaking in an enemy base and walk too loudly, it alerts enemies and prompts them to investigate the noise, even though there are 50 other soldiers that could/ should be walking around also.

I played the Metal Gear Solid master collection recently and the contract between enemy from then to now is STARK because the Ai is so much better in a 26 year old game.

I had a real "OH!" moment when an enemy soldier in MGS1 saw my footsteps in the snow and followed them. A soldier in MGS2 saw me run into a bathroom and began checking each and every stall for me.

I miss actual competent enemy Ai. Indiana Jones is great, but the Ai sucks some of the fun out of it.

Are you playing on the hardest settings?

Hiding bodies is occasionally important if you don't want the patrols to spot it. Particularly generals.

I've never had stealth issues. All you have to watch out for are those spotter-wheels filling up.

Disguises are paramount. You should be searching for those locations as soon as possible so that you don't have any stealth problems.

It's not a stealth game. It's a puzzle game.

Action/Adventure secondary.

I think I'm playing on medium settings and bumped the enemy detection up a bit because it was brain dead. I'm definitely not playing on the easiest settings and selected the hardest puzzle styles, which is still pretty simple.

But what i'm saying is, so what if a patrol discovers a body? Nothing of consequence happens, least of all outside that immediate area. I can practically throw bodies in front of soldiers without issue.

I mean, I'm still really really enjoying the game, I just wish the Ai was a bit more competent

it's actually easy to make effective AI for stealth, so it's most likely nerfed on purpose.

reason for this is because there ain't many options for stealth as for example splinter cell where you get gadgets and different ways to manipulate lighting and stuff to help you through it.

and disguises basicly removes the need for stealth anyway.

if they made the ai smart, with the tools you have, stealth would be a absolute nightmare and a pain in the ass.

Honestly the jank AI makes the game even funnier sometimes. :lunar2019crylaughingpig:

Today i pushed a guy over a ledge and he got stuck with his feet and ragdoll dangled about the other enemies who did not give a flying "EFF" about him... haha.
Pure slapstick.

The Ai is dumb. But it is the right type pf dumb. Let me explain. You cannot save. What would happen if the enemies would remain in an alert state for ever once discovered? Totally unplayable. The same when you are stealthy and still get detected. You can defeat a few and the others don’t hear a thing. Which is good gameplay wise. It is also in line with the movies. This guy, Indiana, always improvises and he always gets away with it. So yeah it is dumb and you get hilarious situations but take it from a thief games veteran ( I played all the thief games on the highest difficulty) it is for the better. Otherwise you would have depended on load/save. It os very easy to make the AI powerful but very hard to make it fun gameplay wise. so it is better like this.

I'm with you on this one OP, the AI is immersion breaking bad. Atroucious. I'm playing it on GamePass and i am browsing the steam forums, was hoping my version is bugged or something. Absolute disgrace and kills my gaming time.

I am crouching 5 m away from NPC-s looking at me and nothing happens. I don't think i have seen such a bad AI in the past 10 years lol.
Sorry to interject, but it is spelled "atrocious."

I agree that the AI is poor, but as others have said, this is most likely on purpose to prevent their carefully crafted "stealth action adventure" story from devolving into another WW2 shooter.

I'm not defending it, though. As OP said, MGS did it (stealth action) very well...more than two decades ago.

Even the almost forgotten No One Lives Forever had "smart" NPC AI that would notice if you opened or closed doors (but didn't put them back to the state you found them.)
They reacted to lights being switched off etc., and got curious. Shooting a lightbulb would cause them to panic once they discovered it had been shot and not simply switched off.
Most importantly, guards would notice if any of their teammates were missing or not at their assigned patrol areas and either call for replacements or set off an alarm.

It's not that we demand more complex systems, but the systems in place should at least have some kind of logic and common sense.
Here, you can literally knock out a guard standing less than 1 meter away from another in complete silence if the other guard isn't looking in the right direction, but non-crouched footsteps apparently get everyone's attention...
It's actually a real problem for many game studios.

Not just this game but Star Wars Outlaws, Helldiver 2, Starfield just to name a few, they all have the same bad Ai. The NPCs will shoot at walls and will see you even when they're looking the other way.

And it can't because it's hard too do, we've seen games from the early 2000's with better Ai. So what's up with all these recent releases being so bad with Ai?

The AI isn't clever, but can be fun to exploit. I got detected atop some of the scaffolding in one of the jungle bases. The fascists queued patiently by the ever growing pile of bodies to get to the ladder, with me pushing each off the top to their death. Cleared the whole base without throwing a punch.

Yeah, it IS a bit arcade in that you have to go out of your way to get enemies to chase after you, as many made from movies games are. I discovered that near the dig in Egypt where I was luring guards toward fuel drums and lighting them on fire, which quickly gets old.

It's really more of a stealth, adventure, exploration game than a combat experience.

Game too easy, increase the difficulty to max. Still too easy, you're lying.

Also on gamepass. I'd be ok with the goofy Ai if the game had a stealth k/o mechanic, but it doesn't. Yes you can melee someone to death with a pipe and the enemy 10ft away doesn't hear a thing but that's not stealth to me.

Also funny how the game never refers to 'killing' an enemy, it's always 'knocking out'. But I think we all know why that is.

There is a KO mechanic, you can pull enemies from behind with your whip and knock them out
