[Issue] Please Fix the Annoying Stutters/Hitching when Autosave [UNFIXED]
The game stutters/hitches whenever the game autosaves. Regardless of in-game settings, the game shows high frame-time spikes when autosaving, resulting in recurrent, brief but noticeable, and annoying stutters/hitches (these high frame-time spikes usually range from 18ms to 45ms or more).

95% of the time the game runs great, buttery smooth, but since the game maps/levels are riddled with autosave points the problem is significant and can be immersion-breaking.

My main system specs:

i9-12900K | RX 7900 XTX (Adrenalin 24.12.1) | 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4-3600 CL14 | NVMe M.2 drive | Win11 Pro 24H2

I hope they fix this in some upcoming patch/update for the game. I haven't found a way to fix it, the problem consistently occurs only when the game autosaves (as soon as the Indiana hat icon is displayed in the top right corner of the screen).

Please comment here if you are experiencing this as well.

Anyone?

I had stutters when my Vsync is turned off on global settings, but I have an NVIDIA card. I believe it may have something to do with G-Sync/Freesync settings. I fixed it by turning on Vsync.

I get save stutter occasionally since I reached Gizeh. It didn't occur at all before then.

For me it's intermitment/doesn't always occur, and when it does happen:
---I've been playing for over an hour or so
---it's during above ground map autosaves, eg, if running from one side to the other so you trigger multiple savepoints in a short period, example getting from point A (blue tent) to point B (digsites). I haven't had save-stutter while in the caves/tombs and hitting savepoints in those etc.

Installed on a sata 3 Samsung 860-Pro 2TB (O/S on SamsungPro nvme but not the latest-greatest nvme)
32 system ram/EVGA-2080ti (11 vram)/9900k
Win10
no path tracing, low texture pool, mostly medium settings, vsync off, no gsync/anything sync. DLSS-Quality, (playing on LG OLED TV, dual monitored with an older 27" 1440, both 60hz).

I find it a little annoying but it doesn't bother me very much, since for me it doesn't happen every single auto-save moment, I guess.
Edits: ohgod I apparently can't type at all this morning >.>

yeah, the auto-saving is bad. I'm running it on 990Pro NVME drive and it's, not always but frequently causing a hickups during save.

I agree and hope. I also submitted a support ticket.

i've been in contact with bethesda support over this issue for a few days. they had me try to install the game on a different drive, clean install nvidia drivers, and also clean boot windows. none of this helped.

You gave your hardware except the piece that matters: Your drives.

Today, I successfully had my support ticket escalated to a specialized team.

I agree that advice such as "install the game on a different drive, perform a clean installation of Nvidia drivers, and clean boot Windows" is typically ineffective. None of these resolved this issue when I tried. Thankfully, I moved beyond that stage with the customer service representative, and my technical report was finally escalated to a specialized team.

I also read reports from Xbox console users complaining about the same stuttering/hitching when the game autosaves. It's likely an issue with the game, and a game patch or update would only resolve this.

Nah, I updated the post with the SSD drive I'm using. It's a SSD 960 EVO NVMe M.2, and I also tested it using a regular SATA3 SSD drive. Same experience, regardless of the game SSD drive and in-game settings.

BTW, the issue started in the Vatican level and continued in Ghiza map. It didn't occur in the Jungle and Museum. Perhaps, it is related with the incremental in-game photos and collectables causing some CPU overhead when autosaving.

That's good thinking, I encountered a programming flaw just like that in another game, where having more inventory items made the game run more slowly.

Thanks. It's a tentative but reasonable working hypothesis at least. I hope more users see this thread and share their experiences.

Also, I will update the main post if the specialized support team offers any insight or updates about the issue.

Digital Foundry review confirmed this issue:
