Announcement: For NVIDIA RTX users having issues with stuttering and FPS
This announcement applies to NVIDIA RTX users (3000 and 4000 series cards). I, unfortunately, don't have any tips for people with AMD Radeon cards.

I'm going to try to keep this as short and sweet as I can. This game stutters in some areas regardless if you have a 3080 or a 4090. It also has a lot of FPS drops which can be solved by graphical settings.

IN ALL CASES AS OF 12/13/2024, TURN OFF NVIDIA FRAME GEN.

I'll define a STUTTER: you're getting 60fps, but every couple of seconds the game lags. For example, it goes from 60fps to 28fps every few seconds. It's like the game "jerks" for a moment. It's a big lag that makes "Indiana Jones" annoying to play.

Framerate issues would be: It's not lagging, you're just getting horrible FPS (30fps) on hardware that should be achieving 60 to 100fps.

STUTTERING/LOW FPS: Turn of NVIDIA Frame generation in Options>Video. It's broken for now, until the devs patch it. EVERYONE SHOULD TURN THIS OFF.

STUTTERING: Turn off DLSS, OR set it to "Auto" or "Performance." You'll have to experiment for what works. The game is going to look worse on "Auto" and "Performance," and your FPS will be lower, but that's the option we have now, with the current state of the game. You might be able to use DLSS on different setting that's not balanced or quality and have the game run fine.

...

To avoid framerate drops:

1. If you have a video card with less than 12GB of VRAM, set textures (Options>Video) to medium. If you have 12GB or more you should be ok with high or ultra textures

2. Tweak your other settings. Shadows and such. Play around with them, lower them, until you get a desired framerate.

...

In sum: DLSS is broken in this game for now. Turn off Frame Gen. Potentially turn DLSS off if it's causing stuttering issues, or set it to "Auto."

Your results may vary, but this is what I've discovered in my many hours of troubleshooting this.

Devs, you seem to have made a good game, but it wasn't tested enough for PC hardware. I hope it's patched soon.

Not sure that it suitable for all configs.

I agree, but there are a million different PC configs and DLSS seems to be the culprit for all of them.

Frame generation issues can be fixed by replacing the dlss and nvidia frame generation dlls with the latest version from techpowerup even with HDR.

I have been playing with it fully working for days now, it still doesn't work in cutscenes but outside of that it's working fine.

I'm essentially talking about people who don't want to go into the game folder to modify it with third party solutions, Johnnius.

They are Nvidia library dlls, takes 30 seconds but ok.

I'm having a hard time believing you, there are a dozen "actual true finally works" fixes for this issue and not one of them seem to hold true

Could you upload a clip of you having Path tracing on, HDR on, frame-gen on, and walking around in the opening level with the frame graph open?

Check my steam post history, helped a few people on here and also on reddit and obviously you can't check but all my gaming buddies on discord who are playing it.

I'm not saying it will work for you but it has for me and several others and It's going to take you less than 1 minute to test.

So that's a no.

I'm not calling you a liar, I just think you might not be noticing the issues that still persist.

The only way to make frame gen activate with HDR on (with any dll) is to restart the game with it set on, but then the frametimes will be a mess and it's clearly not working as intended. It might show you the FPS counter shooting up but that's not the whole story.

Jesus Christ, this is the last time I ever even bother trying to help anyone/post a workaround on Steam.

I'm not spending the time to take footage etc when you can do it yourself in under a minute...

No stuttering, flat frame time graph, completely smooth.
