I really hate Gina
Obviously no particular spoilers, but oh man. Gina is extremely annoying and really breaks immersion as she breathes down your neck with her heavy accent ass about moving forward to the next objective or pointing out a very clearly obvious thing I'm currently working on in a puzzle. I think this game could've easily done better without her and could've focused more on fleshing out gameplay elements in lieu of her involvements in particular missions. What's everyone's thoughts on her character?

The most annoying moment of her was when she told Indy "I don't need to be saved." even though that she was captured by Nazis and would have probably been killed if Indy didn't save her.

She's almost on par with Helena Shaw, I'll give you that much. Almost. 😄

First, Gina says: "Oh, thank God. Can you get these off me?", so she is really happy that Indy rescues her.

And then, when asking Indy about his plans and he replies that he wants to leave ("I'm saving you. Come one, let's go.") she says "I don't need to be saved." and then "We can't just leave now, we have to go after Voss.". So what she means by "I don't need to be saved." is that she finds the whole mission of having to stop Voss in his evil plan to be more important than escaping from the Nazi camp. That is, she wants to tell Indy that he doesn't need to take care of her from then on, so that they can continue to follow Voss. That is all. And fortunately Indy listened to her and they finally were able to stop Voss.
Her haircut does not fit the time period of the 1930s. Nor her snarky attitude and lack of fear from the enemies in the game.

Exactly good point!

We see this all the time now in games and movies, they impose progressive virtues and even clothing\hair styles, even when it makes zero sense and doesn't even fit the story.

But they do it anyway because pushing woke is far more important than creating a quality video game for the masses.

There's woman in dress with a spade at a dig in Egypt. Really, it can't get more ridiculous than this.
Gina is "taking the lead" in small but too annoying ways. It can be described as Cossacks say "getting into the furnace before your dad".
- Indy opens a tomb, she's the first to rush in. Who cares about traps? Cutscenes explicitly emphasise that she's always going in first.
- "Let's go, Jones". You are a sidekick. You don't tell Indy to go, only he decides that.
Meh, it's fiction, not a historical documentary.

The story is fiction but the setting clearly is not.

That being said, short haircuts were actually rather popular with women in 1930's Italy. Especially with women who were rebelling against traditional gender roles, which were made popular again under the fascist regime at the time. So Gina's haircut is actually spot on.

Doesn't change the fact that her character is shallow and boring at best and super annoying at worst :P
I liked Gina. My one beef is that she got in Indy's way a lot. On those puzzles where you have to place the various artifacts you've collected into the sockets to unlock the doors, she would just keep wandering in front of me and blocking my view.

Would have actually been handy if there had been a mechanic for giving her simple orders on where to go or stand.

I was enjoying the character until the line: 'I don't need to be saved,' when she OBVIOUSLY needed to be saved. Any character who responds like that, instead of saying thank you, after being rescued from a certain death, deserves all my contempt, whether it's a man or a woman.

I understand your explanation but that's not how it feels when playing. Her answer sounds harsh and ungrateful. Indiana crosses half the world to rescue her, infiltrates a Nazi camp and puts himself in danger just to rescue her, because at that point he prioritizes her well-being more than The Great Circle, and Gina thanks him like that?

I'm sure that if the rescued character had been a man, the writers would never have made him respond in such an unsympathetic way. There is such a fear of representing women in a weak way in modern entertainment that empowerment is confused with antipathy.

You can be adventurous and self-sufficient and at the same time be grateful and humble... because that's exactly how Indiana Jones is and that's why he's a character that has been loved for decades.
my issue is youre in stealth mode and shes standing right infront of the bad guys and they do nothing

I think she was fine. we were expecting MUCH MUCH worse to be fair. while I liked some of her dialog with indy I also really didnt like her rushing into temples, annoying you to hurry up when I was looking at the environments, and how she kept up with the "strambo" and talking down to indy after plenty of situations of indy being a hero.

again, it could have been so much worse. with how they wrapped up her story in the end I thought she was good. not great or very good. just good.

Now that I've completed the game, I have to agree to some extent that she is annoying. At the beginning she was, but later on she was more quieter.

Do agree that her "I don't need to be saved. " came out of nowhere when she literally needed to be saved.

Still, not as bad as Ashley in the original resi 4.

I’m glad I’m not the only one. Objectively she’s badly written, constantly contradicting herself and used as a deus ex machina far too often. Her pathing is awful and puts her in the open randomly and her “hint reminders” NEVER stop.

Spoiler* The worst thing is she led Indy on. He opened up about losing his last trusting romantic relationship because she thought he was “stuck in the past”. Gina acts like she’s falling in love with Indy and at the end just chooses her career and heartlessly throws that line in his face even though he saved her ass a bunch of times and didn’t do anything wrong. “I wanna be a reporter and you’re stuck in the past and that’s what you get for being vulnerable”. [/spoiler
