To your point about Indy vs. Nazis, we will definitely be fighting the Italian Fascists as well and not just Nazis, and perhaps even the Imperial Japanese Army, but I get your point. I'm always down to kick some Nazi ass personally, but having other foes to face is always nice too.
I guess its because I have a bias against it, its not that I don´t like beating them, since I did that back in the 80´s and 90´s.. its just.. its too much.. I´ve done it to much.. Indy doing it once again, is not really bringing it into "modern society"
But it would be a nice if you were right about your guess with the Italians and Japanese.
The reason I say the Japanese are a likely foe as well is really hinging on the fact that Indy jumps to a Japanese plane, an aircraft that is an amalgamation of a couple of different Japanese air designs. Since it's also likely the location this takes place in the Battle of Shanghai, we could certainly have to fight off some IJA footmen inside the city or something.
As someone whose obsession with the Indy franchise could compete with Henry Sr.'s obsession with the Holy Grail, I'm pretty excited for the game since I've only played Staff of Kings and the Lego Indys, and the first-person aspect looks pretty unique for the genre. People have brought up the Riddick games as some of their work from before Machine Games and how it's a good game, which could tell us a bit about how the gameplay will feel. I'm mostly 'worried' about how fluid and enjoyable/gratifying the melee & whip combat will be, because I imagine it's a really complex system and it has to really look good since that'll be the focus.
I guess I must have missed that. I have not seen to much outside the official trailer.
The Lego indys were actually alright (played them with the young) so that I can accept.
Outside my bias, I actually think this game will be pretty decent to good and a great try for people that like Indy still.
The very mention of the word "woke" in this context immediately sends shivers down my spine. It's as if these so-called "woke" individuals are taking over everything we hold dear and sacred. But let me tell you, it's not just about politics or social justice; it's about taking away our freedom to enjoy the things we love without being bombarded with their liberal nonsense!
First off, let me say that I am a true fan of Indiana Jones, having grown up watching the movies and playing the games. But this new "woke" version of the game has me worried, to say the least. The thought of seeing my beloved hero turned into some kind of social justice warrior is enough to make me want to throw up.
Now, I'm not saying that we should completely ignore the importance of representation and inclusivity in media. After all, it's 2024, and we've come a long way since the days when only white men were allowed to grace the screen. But there's a difference between incorporating diverse characters into a story and forcing an agenda down our throats. And from what I can tell, this new Indiana Jones game is going to be doing a whole lot of the latter.
Take, for example, the inclusion of Gina – the "independent strong woman" who seems to have taken over the entire game. Seriously, what's with all these women trying to steal the spotlight from our hero? It's bad enough that we had to put up with Lara Croft and her tomb raiding adventures, but now they want us to believe that a woman can be just as capable of solving mysteries and fighting off bad guys as Indiana Jones himself. Give me a break!
And let's not forget about the "woke" moments that are sure to pop up throughout the game – like when our hero is forced to apologize for being a man or when he's confronted with his own white privilege. I mean, really? Is this what we can expect from a beloved franchise like Indiana Jones?
I'm not saying that MachineGames can't make a good game – they certainly have the talent and experience to do so. But when you combine their track record of forcing unskippable "narrative moments" into their games with the fact that they are now part of Xbox Game Studios, which is infamous for its "woke" agenda, I can't help but feel a sense of impending doom.
As for that... second half, I don't have a clue how it's even possible to say that with a straight face and MEAN IT. I mean, did we watch the same Indiana Jones movies? To only mention Marion's path of destruction in Raiders (and not even bring up the fact that she REGULARLY out-drinks people probably twice her size and more), she smacks a dude over the head with a log, shoots the guy that is poised to kill Indy, knocked a dude out with a frying pan, knocks out the pilot of the Flying Wing (who is also trying to get a shot off on Indy), utterly OBLITERATES an entire truck of Nazi grunts, and ultimately indirectly kills Pat Roach since she grabbed those brake blocks and caused the pilot to slump onto the plane's controls.
I don't think Willie really racked up the kills in ToD but I'm not surprised since she was a socialite and whatnot and therefore much more concerned about being brought WAAAAY out of her element. I think Elsa might be in a similar boat, since she didn't really do any killing but one could argue that she wasn't the sidekick (but one could also make the point that she was perhaps complicit in the death of those "volunteers" that lost their heads in the Grail Temple).
Which brings us back to Marion in KotCS, where she gets three Soviets killed by having a tree spring back and smack them off a cliff after escaping from those ants. Of course, it's not JUST about killing bad guys. Besides Elsa, all of the female leads in the movies saved Indy from certain death at some point or another. Elsa gets a pass in a way because she wasn't there to be an ally of Indiana Jones, though.
I could also, of course, make a joke about how Indy has always been a "social justice warrior" since he fights Nazis as his second profession, but of course it would depend on which way one would like to define that term.
I do agree that ignoring representation and diversity in media is not the right thing to do, heck, one of the more successful sitcoms of our time was Will & Grace, a show featuring a main character who was gay, and it aired (originally) for 8 seasons! While it's pretty well-known that she's not a great person now, Ellen DeGeneres was a huge television host too in the 2000s. There are also plenty of examples of characters in video games, even before the 21st century, who are a part of the LGBTQ community. However, we have no idea if that'll even be relevant in this particular game.
I really hope that was a bait/troll post because the 4th + 5th paragraphs were NUTS haha
I just think it's profoundly silly for people to get pre-emptively angry about a game we know very little about. There is literally nothing to lose in simply waiting for its release and holding off judgement until then.
I definitely agree with you that casting judgement NOW is not the way to go. I would say that it is at least better to wait and see what else is shown about the game, since it's releasing this year and therefore we should (hopefully) be seeing a fair bit more soon. If someone's gonna be skeptical about the game, then okay, I don't expect to change your mind a whole lot. Personally, I'd be more skeptical about aspects of actual gameplay, but that's just me.
Hopefully, not another Starflop.
This. So much this. I have seen the trailer and for the gameplay? I must admit the game looks fricking boring. From a literal standpoint of this being an Indiana Jones game, I cannot think of Indi as being a FPS type Protagonist. Not that he cant shoot a gun or use his whip proper. Hell hes a pretty good fighter overall, no shade whatsoever.
But the trailer shows pre-game (more than likely) footage of a combat system that looks more than lackluster and boring to play with enemies who could shoot you at any moment but wont cause Indi's gotta whip.
Considering that Todd Howard is the Executive Producer on the game, this specifically has me more than worried. And hell, if the doomsayers in this thread end up being correct, it just adds to it. But as for the game itself? Everyone but IndyBender needs to stop with the doomposting. Woke here, Woke there, the word lost its fricking meaning at this point.
And this comes from a person who was subbed to "CriticalDrinker" for the longest time and only unsubbed like 5-6 months ago when I noticed that he started calling things woke that had nothing to do with what woke actually means. Or how he focused on Marvel at almost every oportunity to say Hollywood is dead when there are plenty of other movies leaving Hollywood, but arent Disney.
I say this with the utmost respect to yall cause we are all here as Indiana Jones Fans: Chill out, take a breather, go outside for a bit and stop binging anything that is online content. As in, social media, youtube, twitch, etc. What I noticed before my own break is that the more I had done it myself, the more I ended up thinking its worse than it was. Is there a problem we should address? Yes. Is it a catastrophe or world ending disaster or one that may throw society in a new era? No.
You would think that at this point in time, every country in the world would turn more and more woke, by the literal sense of the word but meanwhile in germany (where I live) the Nazis are on the rise again through a new party and they grow every day with more and more supporters.
I love yall, but there is more important stuff happening in the world than dumb gamedevs saying dumb stuff about your favorite franchise. And I say this as a person who loves the franchise. Yes even Crystalskull, suck my ass.
I will say that Todd has been behind some less-than-stellar games since Skyrim/Fallout 4 (for some, I've never played either so I'm not the end-all-be-all on that) but he has been shown to be a serious Indiana Jones fan throughout this process so I'm willing to give him a little leeway for having his name in the Raiders opening credits font in the trailer. (Personally I think that having the word lose its meaning is kind of the point but that's not important here)
Ah, greetings from across the pond, my man! Sucks to hear about those yokels, though, I hope things get better, seems to be happening to a fair few countries. Stay safe out there, chief.
Heck yeah, man, I'm not gonna say that the new ones aren't without flaws entirely but I still enjoy them regardless, the music especially.
You really should have expected this
Why was it okay to criticize Sonic's design for the Sonic movie before the movie was released, but it isn't okay to criticize a video game made under the supervision of Disney who are known for their unlikable strong female characters and the insertion of "the message" all over their projects?
Indiana Jones is all about the story and I'm personally concerned about that, because I don’t want another Helena Shaw (an unlikable and patronizing female character), and we’ve already had a Marion (a likable female sidekick), so there is no need for another copycat of her. I simply don’t want Gina to be more of the same crap that has ruined new Disney’s movies and shows for me.
In my opinion, it’s perfectly fine to criticize this new video game, especially because we are not in the 90’s anymore where entertainment was more genuine and didn’t try to actively push agendas. Now Disney owns Lucasfilm, and the last game from MachineGames was a mess story wise, so let people be concerned about the franchise they love and care about, because we don’t want Indiana Jones to be ruined like Star Wars was. It doesn’t matter how much of a fan that Senior Narrative Director guy is, he doesn’t look like someone who would tell a “clean” story without forcing certain things or lines of dialogue to push for more of the useless nonsense, not everyone is into this woke ideology, but I’m definitely into great games that don’t force crap ideologies down my throat and instead focus on telling a good story.
