Why first person???
Worst decision you could make for a game like this. I hope they will consider to add third person mode too.

Well with the most recent showing (90% of which was cutscenes) it seems they have nailed the "Indy feel" but all of the gameplay shown did not impress.
Watching Indy's hands punching, whipping, or putting wheels on gears and feeling like a robot stumbling forward doesn't feel immersive to me.
I don't want a virtual reality game. I want to see Indy on his adventure and only the third-person view gives that.

I get it that you want to see Indy but then go watch the movies or when the game comes out watch the cutscenes. I personally want to play a videogame and I personally don't care if I see the character or not. I am curious about the story, about another Indy adventure but this is still a videogame. Everyone is different tho but I personally want to experience the character's world, like looking around me and solving puzzles, hiding and fighting and yes I could do that even in 3rd person but I wanna solve the puzzle tho, "me" as in Indiana Jones and it is different in 1st person. I can understand those who want 3rd person mode because there are games that showed us how great they are but it's up to the devs to make a good game and the devs are "specialized" in making 1st person games. Overall I'm just happy that we are going to get some Indiana Jones content.

That is the question. The question is why a brand of Indy adventure games, which have always been third-person, has passed into the hands of first-person specialists. The answer: a budget problem. It's easier and cheaper than making a third-person game.

So then Resident Evil 7 had to be done in easier and cheaper way? I don't think so. I don't think it is easier because you still have to develop the game, fix the bugs and make everything work as they intend to. There are easier things and harder things to develop in 1st and in 3rd person as well. And well Bethesda secured the project with Lucasfilm Games for it so they get to decide who makes the game and it will be done by a developer team that Bethesda owns obviously. Not by a team that they don't own.

people always parrot this but there is zero evidence to actually suggest that it's true lol also a lot of this game will be cutscenes and some gameplay mechanics are in third person.
Best decision if you want true immersion and for an Indi game, thats the perfect choice ;-)
A 3rd person option would be nice...Personally I like the 1st person this time..Recently I played Infernal Machine...A tomb raider clone in my eyes.. i plan to play Emperors Tomb before this comes out. Play those games if you want 3rd person Indy fun. But I agree...a switch between 1st and 3rd would be perfect
Because...

1st person > 3rd person

Since it's a Bethesda game hopefully modders can step in if there isn't
It's an id Engine, not Gamebryo 3 or whatever they use in Starfield. How many 3rd person mods for DOOM or Wolfenstein have you seen and how well do they work?
not a mod,
Quake III (ID Tech 3) has console commands that allow you to play in third person view. Although its not recommended to play in that view as the game wasn't made for that view.
/cg_thirdPerson 1 # Enable third person view /cg_thirdPersonAngle 0 # Set third-person view angle /cg_thirdPersonRange 40 # Set third-person view range

A 3rd person mode for Q3 is more like the 3rd person mode for Minecraft.
At best a very stiff puppet that looks retarded ingame.

Maybe like interacting with a lever would look like Indie humping it ecstatically .

It would only work if there was actually a fully animated ingame 3D model ingame.

DOOM 2016 didn't have one for example.

But DOOM Eternal had, and only because of the raytracing.
Actually funny if you are on the train and look at the floor...
you see the Slayer running.
So it's actually the Slayer that is moving the train ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).

The game like this needs Thirdperson mode... like Tomb rider, Uncharted....

Because Machine Games have never made a 3rd person game. It's much easier for them to reskin Wolfenstein and reuse the multitude of assets and mechanics from those games.

And is most Indy game ever!
