The current live version of the game in the old engine will be going away once the new improved version is up to the same feature set. We are still actively working on it. We spent a year and half basically rewriting the game from scratch in a modern engine to have improved graphics, controls, collision detection, physics, and platform support for windows, linux, and mac. Unless something crucial comes up that breaks the live game, the old version will not receive any future patches as we work to release the new version. If you own the game you can play the current new version in the Beta channel on steam. Right now it is limited to SP to test platform stability, framerates, etc. We are working on rolling out BETA 2 release that will add MP for additional testing, then from there completing what is needed to replace the live version of the game. After that is done, new content will be worked on to finish up the release of the game and we will exit early access at that point.
Which engine is it?

new version is unity 5. the old one was torque 3d
No offence... but unity sucks for some kinds of games. This kind of game... But.. if thats all you could get..

Unity is just a tool like any engine. It has more features that we wanted for the game than Torque 3D had. Why do you think it sucks for this type of game?
Because I remember some other unity games I have played. But, those may have been from older versions...

That mostly comes from the skill of the developer too. We have used unity for years for our contract work so it was one of the deciding factors in choosing it since we were very familiar with it. Unity is a very easy engine to use and is also very powerful. So you get a wide range of games from bad to really good depending on the experience of the developer. There will be some hurdles but there are with all game engines, but we will do our best to produce the best game we can.

I'm sure you guys can whip it into shape. Unity is much more capable than torque3d. I don't see a reason why this wont be great on unity.
