What is the STROL virus? (Spoilers A-OK!)

I havent gotten to play it much but the wikia doesnt say much and I wanna find out, anyone willing to serve up a detailed dossier?

Its a type of virus that infected and killed Earth. Not sure on the origin....maybe space or man made. The virus was then brought onto mars and used as a weapon.

Mostly it was a BOW developed long ago and broke out of control from corporation developed it, which led to a disaster on Earth and colonisation of Mars after.
After 117 years that BOW arrived to mars colonies via contraband during civil war against mars goverment and rival rebel group.
