I figure this is a good way to replace what I'd had to eat before.
I'm guessing there is a max entity count of your proximity. So taken into account that you are most likely to spend most of your time near your base. Which might have multiple fish farms and farming trays, that all take up an entity counter. Which in the end has a higer priority over wildlife and thus ends up pushing them out by making them either depsawn or simply not reload once you leave the area.
Though I don't really have anything to back this up other than nearly every type of fish, big or small, tends to despawn near my base.
I am getting Stalkerless Kelp forests around me but I have onle 2 fish in my aquarium so i doubt it is that.
I built a base near the volcanic vent in the shallows. After a while there aren't anymore fish around the entire area . I didn't even kill one fish around my base and the lack of any stalkers means they couldn't have eaten them.
I then decided to breed a good amount of fish to place around my base to bring some life back to the area. It worked for a while but now all fish are gone. I checked the bottom of the vent and there were 2 dead/cooked peepers in there...so that is not where they are going.
Something is definately going on with fish despawning. The ocean is becomming lifeless and boring. Hopefully the devs can look into this.
