ark is a nest for griefer and harraser, sad just sad ... there talent amongst the devs team no doubt but ... now they deal with BE also and $able xDr drama and all tralalalala. ...
it's like a socio thermometer in the ... well seem sick ... "work as intended" ... "don't live in bubble" ... "we had a vision" ... *yawn @ lvl max*
Fair enough, but not presumptious at all.
This game is getting HEAVY attention from Streamer and Yubers already. Many of whom played out the game mid 2015, with no intent to revist the game (Jacksepticeye for example). When the game releases, what's going to bring the Tubers and Streamers back? Here's the thing about Early Access game, ESPECIALLY Subnautica. I already played the endgame. I've had a cyclops. I've built my base. Sure I want to see new features, and am excited for them. But at this point, and I feel Tubers would agree, replaying the game would just be for the sake of going through the progession, almost just to humor the game.
FWIW, as a software developer for 25 yrs, I fully recognize that they're potentially writing themselves into a corner that only an excessive amount of time and effort will let them enable MP. That said, drawing from that same wellspring of experience, I recognize when a team has been forced to commit to a certain scope and deadline due to such intangibles as investors and other commitments.
On the other hand, as an avid fan of Markimoo for... maybe a year or so?... I also fully recognize that MP is a Good Thing for a game to have, for replay, for sales in general, etc. I've seen how much fun he has w/ his friends on the games he plays, and I have no doubt that it greatly amplifies the number of people will buy a game, if it has Multiplayer.
So, when I say "Yeah, this is indeed 2016 and MP has become a standard, but that REALLY doesn't matter here", it's not because I hate MP. It's not because I don't see MP as useful to a developer.
They've committed to a deadline, they have people to answer to, and they Must Reach That Deadline before they open up the game's scope further.
For all we know, they may have overcommitted on scope and undercommitted on the time and/or resources they'd need. Does it suck? Sure. But unless someone wins the lotto and hands them several million new dollars to spend, so that they can afford to add MP.... it's not happening until after they release.
No, I definitely don´t want all of my games to be multiplayer ... actually (to give an example) the enforced multiplayer of Sim City 5 was a reason for me to not buy it (until the devcs strengthened its capabilities to be played single player)
I also don´t need Subnautica to be multiplayer (I have other, massive multiplayer, games to fulfill my desires for multiplayer ;) )
and of course Gaben is the god of the gamers, not jackshiteye
No offence, but are you out of toutch with the 'Gamer' lifestyle? I mean sure, this is a game that is ideal for casual player, but to say "Many gamers have absolutely no interest..." You're disregarding MILLIONS of people. In fact, I would argue MOST gamers reach out to YouTube for information on games they are on the fence about.
And I used Jacksepticeye as an example because you can literally go to his series on Subnautica to get a gamer's reaction to the progression of the game. Not because he's "the God of gamers". He brings up valid points, and many share his feelings.
No one is asking you to like these YouTubers. Nor are you adding to the conversation in any way.
This is probably the most reasonable argument I've seen thus far.
I agree ...
I for my part also prefer to read old styled reviews of games over watching someone else palying a game over YT
Fair enough, but I would go as far to assume your over the age of 25?
Gamers 26+ and gamers below 25 are vastly different groups.
Yes, I am definitely over 25 (and have to admit that I don´t know anyone personally who is under 25 (maybe some of the people in the MMOs I play, but with those the talks never revolve around their age, so I never know whether someone is 15, 25 or 45+))
