Is the free epic games download permanent? or will I need to purchase after Dec 27th?

I got the game through the Epic Games promotion, but it says "free now - Dec 27th".
Does that mean that I own the game through Epic, or that after Dec 27th I will need to purchase the game to continue to play?

Just need clarification.

What's frustrating is that it says this on the Epic page where you download Subnautica:

Best of all, once you grab the game, it’s yours to keep!

Surprised anyone has to ask - seems pretty clear to me.

Not really but they're pretty busy - PS4 launch, Epic launch, engine upgrade/bug fixes for Subnautica and development for Below Zero.

Tencent really has nothing to do with Epic games. Theyr just a share holder. It is still up to UWE to do stuff Tencent would like to do.

If you get the game while its free you will own it forever. The game won't be free for forever though, that's temporary.
