Also some transmissions of lifepods come through incomplete. They'll be in your clues section and you'll need to indirectly find them.
(Then run screaming from what you find out there
Scan EVERYTHING (yes, all caps EVERYTHING)!!!! And then click on everything else.
You don't have to read all of it, the game even has a "codes and clues" section of the PDA for this, but there is useful info mixed into the lore it gives you.
If the radio points you at something, don't just explore that one little spot. The radio won't last forever, it's just a training wheel to help get you out into the world.
Sooner or later, the wheel will come off. But at least it leaves you with some free beacons to help find your way about.
Other than that? Do what you want. Some look for the next piece of the story, others try to poke their noses into any place they can find and people like me get carried away with the base building.
....Very carried away.....
You might want to build a comfortable home, which requires exploring to find materials.
When you needed to go further, the seaglide was nearby. When you wanted to explore to 200m, you found the seamoth above that. Now you must find your next vehicle/depth module to grant you access to greater depths.
The tool to reach deeper is within your reach; you just need to find it.
Also, keep listening your radio. You'll still get new messages and new points-of-interest offering more clues. After the last radio message and/or the last PDA location marker, however, you'll be on your own and have then to piece the rest of the story together by yourself. The clues *are* there, so keep exploring.
And as others have already said: When in doubt go deeper.
Also, start taking note of "oddities". Like, ever wondered why some particular places seem to be infested by Warpers...
This is the best answer. After you've fully explored the island facility you should understand why the Sunbeam was destroyed and have some clues where to head next.
Lots of players get stuck here because they're not in the habit of actually reading the stuff their PDA is storing as Data Downloads.
Or you know, just do what an advanced alien species couldn't do, fix the planet and escape by yourself
Ha! Real men don't never read no instructions!
Which is probably why the next game in this series features a female avatar. At least she'll read the directions. :P
Seriously, what is with folks not reading things? That's half the reason I play games like this, not just to figure out what's going on, but to experience the lore that's there. Helpful hints are also a plus. Then again, I once tried to put together an IKEA shelving unit without the directions and actually got it built in less than two hours, so instructions are not always all that.
For new players, if you're not already aware you do not lose Food or Water while seated, so build a chair or bench in your base, sit down and do some reading!
The new game needs a secondary notification that pops up once the player is in relative safety.
