how do I know if i'm outside of the playing zone?

The Dead Zone is the edge of the playable map and those big nasty dudes are there to "encourage" you to turn around.

Yeah. We've all been there. I'm sorry that you had to meet the Ghost Leviathan like that. The ecological dead zone is full of them. You're not missing anything out there. There's literally nothing worth dying for out there.

I ran into him actually. It was I think night and I just ran into him.

Without going into spoilers, the game is set in a volcanic crater. Rich with nutrients, warm waters, etc. Once you go a certain length in ANY direction, you'll reach a sudden and steep drop where the land ends. From here there's nothing but a dark, lifeless hell where only microscopic organisms live. That and the leviathan class predators that eat them. You'll want to make sure you're careful with one of your vehicles when at the edge.

Don't listen to ^these guys - there's a special cave filled with really good loot down around 1900m.

If you get to 1900m and don't see a cave...just keep going, I'm sure it's down there somewhere.
