Good place for a second, deeper base?
I seem to have constructed a Cyclops ahead of my means of actually mantaining it properly mith my piddly 60m depth base near the shallows. I've mostly mined out my immediate area, and instead of hauling more stuff in I might as well move the whole thing.

But where? I've no idea. I've explored quite a bit, though mostly just following the Degasi crew or other Life Pods. I admit I have a very poor sense of direction, and without a map I get lost quite easily; my ocean planet is cluttered with beacons everywhere. The point is I'm a nunce and need some help.

What are some good locations for deep-ish bases with relatively good access to resources? That don't involve warpers, preferably.

I'll recommend sea threaders path or grand reef. I think those places has lots of resources.

I have no idea where those places are, but thanks! I've been avoiding googling a map of the area, which I guess I should have mentioned, but I do appreciate the suggestions. Guess I'll just bite the bullet here.

Now that I think on it, I DO remember passing by some big critters that leave resources in their steps. I guess that's what you mean by "sea threaders path". Was somewhere near the ancient skeleton I think. Hope I can find it again! That's actually a great suggestion.

Depends on how deep you mean? Anything beyond 200 meters and you'll be looking for places with thermal nearby for power if you don't want to have to build more than one bio reactor as solar is not really an option past 150 (well, it is an option, but it's not a very good one).

Most of the places on this list are "good for resources" in the sense that you will need a drill armed prawn to make full use of them. If you don't have one of these then you best bet for easy resources is anywhere between the safe shallows and the mountain island to the north.

The red grass biomes, either of them, are a good place for a base. Deep, plenty of rock formations to build around and easy access to other biomes for their resources.
There are some good places for a base in these areas near lifepods "6" and "17".

Bulb zone is full of resources but also a lot of things that will try and eat you.

The floating island sits over an area full of resources and while down there are warpers and a ghost the island itself is more than safe.

The mushroom forest also has good resources, but some bits of it also have the odd thing that will want to eat you, though less than any other listed.

If the beacons are getting in the way, you can turn some of them off until you need them again with the PDA.

My first base is just outside the mushroom forest, by complete accident, so that one is mostly mined out. I don't have a PRAWN, but do have a maxed depth Seamoth so I can try for deep locations. I just need access to more resources. Maybe I just need to bite the bullet and keep mining shallow areas.

Also, no idea where or what the giant cove tree is.

I like the bulb zone by Lifepod 12. 230m or so deep, plenty for the cyclops. Near thermal vent if you want thermal power and a beautiful area.

The elecric eels dont bother me at all, there pathing doesn't come close enough to a worry and at night it is simply beautiful with all the glow in the dark trees, eels, thermal vent and glowing fish.

I spent a few hours moving my base from the shallows to here.

You want deep deep the green river around the Tree Cove would be good as well. I am planning on making a 2nd base there to mine all the resource nodes in that area. It is about 930m deep.

Ah! So "underwater river" is actually the green stuff? I know where that is! It definitely looked like a great place for a base, but I'm not sure I want to go straight from 60m to 900m. I'll check out the area by Pod 12, thanks for that tip.

newish player? easy.. mushroom forest theres a spot in the left corner that has great access to kelp forest and safe shallows. build on the cliff by kelp forest. deep enough for cyclops and high enough for solae if you use that.

I put base #2 near the ghost Leviathan tree, easy to locate if tyou keep Degassi Base #2 pinged in your PDA. Site about 930 meters down with easy access to LOTS of drillable and pickupable resources, not to mention easy access to Kayanite, which you'll need later.

My top priority is a hot spot for thermal power. They're the most convenient option for desalinization and power cell charging. Once you have the cyclops, nothing else really matters.

I like the sea treaders path area best for a deep base. There are lots of smoker vents around but there are also a lot of reapers and warpers close to them. The only time I killed a ghost leviathan was when building a base down there.

If you want access to a crazy amount of metallic resources, I'd suggest the Lost River.

I built my deep base not far from the Mountains/Bulb Zone entrance, right on top of the Reaper skeleton. The creepy eel-things don't really bother me, and their aggro-range is pretty short, and the only real threat comes from the jeuvenile Ghosties, but they're deeper in, and don't do much damage to a Prawn suit.

Another really good spot a little bit deeper in, past the Ghost Leviathan, is the Giant Cove Tree. It's beautiful, and there are absolutely no predators in that section. Lots of gold, silver, copper, urananite, nickel, titanium, and quartz. A varitable paradise filled with some of the prettiest scenery in the game, imo.

That's a good spot too. I find the Sea Treaders fascinating. Always nice when a big life-form doesn't want to kill you.

The only Ghostie I had to kill was one in the Lost River that simply would not leave me be. I was lazy though, so I just instagib'd him with a Crashfish from my Prawn. Felt kinda bad, but he just would not go back to his little area after he found me.
