How to scan big hostile animals?

Problem arose with reaper, when after chasing him for like 30 minutes I finally got eaten. Then, after chasing amp-eel at 200 meters without rebreather for another 10 minutes, I've started to see the problem with hend-held scanner.

Are there some alternative scanning options for big, fast and dangerous things? Or is there some way to keep them in place for scans?

Creature egg - find the eggs, and raise them in containment. Not certain if all creatures have eggs, but inside containment they are docile.

Stasis rifle can be used as well

I personally just let them bite me and scan them while they do but a safer way to do it is stasis rifle.

theres a stasices rifle that freezes stuff allowing you to scan them thats how i scaned the sea dragon

you find the two stasis rifle fragments, build a stasis rifle. shoot it at a hostile creature and then scan

It's actually best to shoot twice; once to get it frozen for a moment; then the second time a fully charged one so it stays put long enough to scan.

I have done everthying with just strafing. If you stay close to their head and continuously cycle around their bodys, to stay behinf them, they can not attack you, because leviathans need space to charge.
Only problem is the escape.

The suggestion with the Stasis Rifle is probably the safer variant. But it is possible without.

That doesn't work; they get insta grab and insta kill if you are in the water ANYWHERE near the front of their head.
