I also have problems with starting Subnautica, but got it to run with the OpenGL renderer enabled.

My troubleshooting was something like this:
Downloaded game -> Could not start it (just get a black screen that quickly vanishes back to desktop and game process is dead)
Performed a game file integrity verification pass -> It passed and problem persisted
I read the troubleshooting sticky thread
Deleted the game and downloaded again -> Still the same problem
Added the -force-opengl start argument -> Game starts and work (at least 15 minutes in it seem to work fine)
Removed the start argument to get it to launch with directX -> Problem is back

So for now I have added back the start argument -force-opengl to be able to run the game. Have not tried to launch it i VR yet, but I guess I can try that later and see if that is possible with DirectX rendering.

Short computer specs: Ryzen 2700X / 16GB / Vega64 with 18.5.1 drivers / Windows 10 with applied 1803 update

Right click on the game in your game list and open Properties.
In the General tab, there should be a "SET LAUNCH OPTIONS..." button which lets you specify the parameter.

This is all described better in the troubleshooting instruction if you have problems finding it.

See up at the top of the forum? All those threads marked as PINNED?

Those are Pinned because they're important.

One of them says "PINNED: TROUBLESHOOTING". That's the troubleshooting guide.

The problem is the 18.5.1 drivers. The 18.4.1 drivers work just fine. Go to the AMD download site and DL the 18.4.1 drivers, uninstall the 18.5.1 drivers, and then install the 18.4.1 drivers.

Thanks , this is my second option.

I refunded because of this issue. The next day I read this. Repurchased and now I'm using the 18.4.1 drivers.

Works perfectly.

AMD just released new drivers, 18.5.2, and Subnautica still crashes with them. Stay with 18.4.1 for now.

Solved it! If you dont have any problems with drivers, updates or other stuff try this:
Restarting your graphics card:
Device Manager > Expand Display Adapter > Right click your primary card (mine is GeForce GTX 1050) > Disable and then enable again.

Worked on my end, should work on others too! ;)

ok so make sure its trusted your computer might be closing it thinking its a virus. Check anything else and watch some yt videos on it, If worst comes to worst delete it and re-install it R.I.P Worlds..

The launch argument to force opengl worked for me as well! :steamhappy::steamhappy:

If you purchased via the Epic Games Launcher adding the game to steam then putting the launch argument "-EpicPortal -force-opengl" minus the quotation marks should bypass the epic launcher as well as directx
