On the Way to Sunbeam, It Crashes!
The game crashes whenever I try to pass biomes to reach the land site.

Funny. Mybudget build toaster hasn't crashed at all. But my husband's high end Pro rig is crashing on a regular basis.

OP- ignore the troll.

The game is not optimized yet, at all. So performance issues, icluding crashes are happening for a good many people. People who are playing on low end rigs all the way up to high end beast rigs. Some people have constant crashes, some (like me) have had none in spite of running the game on a mouldy potato toaster oven. With a turnip on top.

When the game is completed, and just before v1.0 is released, the game will get final optimization and polish passes. Which should improve performance and limit crashes for most configurations. Until then, there is a workorund, temporary fx that may work (or may not) :

Stable Branch crashes less than Experimental. Lowering settings and turning off or turing down some graphics setting manually in the F1 and F3 menus may help. Shutting down uneeded background programs may help. But there is currently no one-size-fits-all fix. Yet.

crashing with Win10 / 6700k / 1070 / 32gb @ 3000 etc

the game appears to have that trademark Unknown Worlds horrific performance. it uses a massive amount of ram, the framerate chugs, and now ive hit the crashes ive heard so much about - on my way to the Sunbeam

How much ram you have?
I have 8gbs of ram but the fact that makes my game crash i think is that the map is over loaded with MORE items than is should have loaded. What I mean is I tried to laser-cut a door and i needed to cut it like 10 times and also there were like 10 PDAs while it shoud have been only 1.

Honestly I was having a problem with the game crashing after 8 hours of playing. By following this method in the past it has solved the prpblem for another 8 hours or so. If you have not done so, give this method a shot OP.

The only connection between the Sunbeam and the crashes is that many of you are reaching that point in the game with about 20 hours on your save.

Read the Guide linked by IFIYGD above to resolve the problem.

Not to mention the more assets you build or the more terrain changes you have, the performance of the game will drop.

Actually I had this same problem, crashing during the countdown timer for Sunbeam, but it turned out I was actually having the cache file issue. The having to cut multiple doors is a dead give away you have the cache file issue.

I've been very careful to build my base so I don't have to take the extra steps, and I've totally exploited the respawning of all the scrap and quartz that the fix causes.
