Can't enable DLSS frame gen on a 4090?
Anyone know why this is greyed out for me? If I switch to FSR I can enable the FSR FG, but not with DLSS.

Even people with 4xxx and 5xxx series NVIDIA cards are seeing these options greyed out or non-existent. Many solutions, ranging from replacing relevant DLLs with SDK version, to enabling familiar PROTON env variable settings, tend to not work.

However, when you press the tilde key (~), a very handy and verbose console comes out. Even just typing keywords brings up relevant commands. Typing them in without setting a value gives you a description of valid values and what they do.
So, if you, like me, do not have access to NVIDIA Reflex and Frame Gen despite owning an NVIDIA 4060. You can do the following after booting the game:

1. Press ~ (tilde)
2. Type in: Altar.Reflex.Mode 1
(If you want the equivalent of Reflex + Boost, type in 3 instead. So Altar.Reflex.Mode 3.)
3. Press enter.
4. Altar.DLSS.FG.Enabled 1
(You can set it to 2 if you want to use the 'Auto' setting, for whatever reason.)
5. Press enter.

In theory, there should be a way to autoexec these commands on boot-up, but I know not how.

Wallah. You now have Frame Gen and NVIDIA Reflex enabled.

Personally, I find the Frame Gen integration to be surprisingly poor compared to other games. Where a minimum 60FPS does not net me much extra FPS. (Whereas in, say, Cyberpunk 2077, it boosts me from 60FPS average to 120FPS average.) So I've opted to only use NVIDIA Reflex for minimal latency. Your personal results will vary, howev

bare in mind that doing what that user suggested will disable achievements. if that matters then dont use the command console at all
or prepare to have to use mods to circumvent the achievement lockout

Good call out. I was aware going in and don't mind but definitely something people will want to weigh against.

----

Also, for anyone else that does this. The setting does still appear grayed out, but I can confirm that it *appears* to be functioning. Got a healthy framerate boost and can actually run 32:9 2160 now

yeah i wont be playing it again until they fix the game. i played last night for the first time and it played great. i have a 4070 super with a 13th gen i7 and was getting close to 200 fps and now today I'm barley getting 50 fps. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lol. nice hot fix guys!!

Console commands won't fix the issue under Linux.

Its possible running this under WINE and NOT proton with WineHAGS could help.

When I have time to mess around, I'll try to do it via STL.

DLSS and frame gen are a blight on gaming.

They really are, most people don't understand why tho.

Motion blur heavy, artifacting, amongst many other motion clarity issues, as well as devs not actually optimising their crap in first place.

But there can be a place for dlss and fsr, if it continues to improve.

What absolutely needs to go is TAA and unreal 5. Both are a ban on gaming.

He did not say all people with 4xxx and 5xxx cards... It most certainly is true. For some people it seems to still work while others like me got ♥♥♥♥♥♥ by the update and it stopped even giving us the option anymore.

Thanks for sharing this! I tried it and it finally worked for me!

Sadly, I agree with you that the performance isn't very good. I get a lot of stuttering and occasionally some really bad input lag. Pity, considering the efforts I've gone through, but that's how life is when you try and shoehorn software made for one OS onto a completely different OS. Maybe a future update will improve it!

Update your drivers.

Last NVIDIA drivers cause huge stability issues!

OG Oblivion would chug along at 6-10 fps on my PC back in '06, and no video game company gave a rats tail about it. My only option was to get a better computer. If I were in the same boat today I could enable frame gen, and if the fake ai frames bothered me that much then I could still go buy a more powerful computer and run it the traditional way. PC games have always been designed for high end hardware, up until recently the only thing to be done about it was to spend a ton of money keeping up with new releases. Now we have more options, which is a good thing.

Or to use your own metaphor, YES a gas mask is a godsend to people who need it, and you'd be a jerk to argue they shouldn't be made just because you don't need one.
This is revisionist history. Countless games have released for PC optimized and even more games have received optimization patches post-launch. A lot of companies will do everything they can to cut corners as long as their game sells well enough, and now framegen exists as a beautiful excuse to eschew putting more resources into fixing a game. If a game doesn't run well that's not the companies fault, you just didn't enable framegen!
Was OG Oblivion optimized on release? I never claimed that every single game ever released runs badly. I claimed that OG Oblivion ran badly, for me, on my hardware. And it did! If I had frame gen as an option back then I would have enabled it, just like I'm trying to now. "Revisionist history" is a hilarious way to describe someone expressing an opinion that doesn't match yours. Your misreading of my comment is more revisionist than anything I said.
