From my observation this bug seems to happen at laptops who have two GPUs (Build-In Intel and Nvidia for example).
• Type of Bug: In Game Bug
• Description: The game starts but gets stuck at the Red Hook screen. The sound is going on and you can hear, that the game is waiting for input. Since you are stuck, you can’t do anything.
• Reproduction rate: 10/10
• Steps to reproduce: Just launch the game from steam or the .exe in the folder.
• Expected result: The game starts and progresses to the main menu while the narration is going on.
• Observed result: Stucks at the Red Hook Screen while the sound goes on. It seems like that the integrated GPU in the CPU can’t handle the game.
• System Specs: Windows 7, Intel i7-2630QM, Nvidia GT 540M, 8 GB Ram
Solution: Access the folder where you Darkest Dungeon.Exe is located (for example: D:\Steam\steamapps\common\DarkestDungeon\_windows\Darkest.exe and start it with your your external GPU (in my case the Nvidia). The game starts as expected now.

I own a Notebook with 2 differnt GPUs. I had to open my Catalyst Control Panel and selected my Darkest Dungeon exe and set it to run with high power.
I hope you can enjoy the game now :D
