There was time when I bring a lot of different stuff for test on curios, but missed that one (probably experiments ends for me when Highwayman had heart attack when I force him to fire books >_< It made me think that highwaymen for some reason likes to read very much and always send them to check books ever since).
Click the book shelf and the books in the early days until you get your quirks maxed out at 5. After that you can skip. The positive chance outweighs the negatives here.
Just about the only thing I wont touch with out the right reagent is a grave or a dead body.
Grave definitely dodgy, the locked cabinet too without the item.
I don't mind those things where it requires the right item as you can plan for them. Pile books is just loaded against you, and that's even before the RNG has decided you're going suffer.
We have very different opinions on the books. I never touch them.
You're right, you're statistically likely to get something beneficial or nothing at all but, any curio that causes stress early game is by far the most damaging imo. It's the difference between needing and not needing post mission stress relief.
It probably says something about me as a person when I'm not willing to gamble while the odds are in my favor.
