Ah, thank you! A heads up, though. Most of the times when developers mention partial controller support on Steam, it means that either there's a launcher before the game (e.g. games developed with Unity), or that, although the game is fully playable with a controller, the on-screen prompts will still refer to keyboard commands (e.g. Euro Truck Simulator 2). More close to my question, Warframe's partial controller support means that only combat and exploration can be done with controllers while part of the UI must be interacted with the mouse (or at least it was like that when I played it with an XBox controller).
Are there currently any plans to implement XBox prompts?
Yup!
It shouldn't mess up anything, as far as I'm aware. The X on a DualShock controller corresponds to A on an XInput one, so it's not much about what each button does, but the on-screen prompt. When it shows X on screen, pressing A on the XBox controller should have the exact same result.
Something's wrong. Perhaps if you're using DS4, something went wrong with the driver installation? The controller support doesn't make use of cursors at all, actually.
Isn't the xbox controller like, 500 times more popular than the PS4 one, on PC?
True that. Even though there is some native DualShock 4 support on PC (I think solely from Steam, but I could be wrong), XInput devices are still the norm for a lot (and I mean A LOT) of developers. And honestly, there's little to no excuse not to add on-screen prompts that match the XBox controller buttons.
Some games already have a built-in system where it recognizes if you're using a DS4 or an XInput device and changes the prompts automatically based on that. Or even before tha was ever thing, PSO2 and FFXIV allowed players to manually select which on-screen prompts they want to use.
I understand that Red Hook is a much smaller studio than Square Enix and SEGA, but no one can say they're at the edge of bankruptcy. Darkest Dungeon is a critical and commercial success (it HAS to be a commercial success, otherwise they wouldn't have the means to develop the DLC), so there isn't much of an excuse not to implement this feature. It shouldn't be difficult if the game already uses on-screen prompts for keyboard and mouse as well.
Unless, you know... priorities.
I actually just opened it to check if it transitions seamlessly between kb/m and controller glyphs and it does. I don't have DD installed right now, but I suppose it does the same? What exactly makes it so complicated that it's taking them a lifetime and a half to implement the XBox glyphs?
