Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

Statistiche:
Stupidly difficult?
Is it just me, or is this game excessively, stupidly difficult? I don't recall dying this much in BL or BL2. Infact, the only time I recall dying in BL or BL2 is when I did something stupid. Here, I die every 2nd wave of bandits, and if there is a badass involved, well, half a dozen deaths seems to be the average before I manage to overcome it.

Has anyone elese noticed something similar?

Hi Setakat,

There are parts of the game which are more difficult. The oxygen limitation means spending ages picking off enemies at ultra long range with a sniper rifle isn't viable.

You don't say why or where you are having difficulty so here are some basic tips: -

1) Gear. You need to choose your gear wisely. Particularly shields - I always aim for a shield with a recharge of under three seconds and never go higher than four. Also environmental effects. Your loadout mid game onwards should include one fire weapon (for most of the animals), one shock weapon (for shielded enemies), one acid for armour and freeze weapons for fire Kraggans
2) Special power. Hit as soon as you lose your shields or are about to. Whatever it is it increases your survivability.
3) Basic FPS. Use cover where available and use a grenade where you have tightly bunched enemy.
4) Run away ! This is a key tactic. If you're getting your butt whupped do a double jump away and head for the hills. Even just getting behind cover for the few seconds it takes your shield to recharge will save your life.
5) Be careful of the environment. More than half my deaths involved falling off things. Also when entering a fight work out an exit route and how to get air during the fight.
6) Death is an inconvenience not an end. It's a key mechanic that killing an enemy restores your shield and half your health. Pick the weakest/ nearest enemy and drop them.
7) Very early in the game you pick up the only Oz kit in the game which restores health when you pick up an oxygen cylinder. Never relinquish it.
8) Always pick the class booster that regenerates health.
9) Have a good look at the skill trees before you start. Work out where you are going with your character at each stage to plot the best character progression for you. Skills that give you health boosts for killing enemy are always useful in tough fights.
10) Always do viable side missions. The game is nicely balanced in that you get huge XP boosts for fighting tougher enemy and virtually nothing for much weaker. Generally you shouldn't be fighting enemy of higher levels than you. If you miss out the side missions you miss out lots of experience points and some of the games best moments.

The game stacks its most difficult challenges until the final boss battles right at the start. The first boss battle with Deadlift is very hard - at least for most players first time through. There's an early mission where you have to retrieve an echo recording where you have to jump up and get it using an air geyser. Misjudge it and you end up falling to your death. Another where you have to jump in the air and hit two targets before you and they land which takes some skill. An early battle at the entry to a base where you start off up against half a dozen enemy all in shooting range and then drops two elites in at the end.

Also at first the maps are confusing. I found just navigating the map a real challenge at first. Borderlands the Pre- Sequel demands far more platforming skills than other Borderland games.

But persevere. If you get killed the game respawns you nearby with full health and shields. As the game encourages you to do get back in there and get some payback. You should have taken out some of the scavs before they fragged you.

Also experience. In the first Borderlands reassembling the weapons was frustrating until you learnt the developers mind set (and ... walkthroughs). As you play you get Badass points that boost your abilities for every character and every play through.

I've played the game through from start to finish three times. First as Wilhelm, then the Countess, then Handsome Jack, the latter two this year. As a signifier of experience with the Countess I lost upwards of twenty lives defeating the final boss. With Handsome Jack I didn't lose a single life.

With Borderlands the Pre-Sequel persevere. The game is actually very good although there's a central platforming level that was a 'mare when I first did it - not least because if you leave the game it starts you right at the beginning when you start again - I still don't like. However if you persevere you know the maps and can do all the missions. You know where enemy spawn. You have boosts from your previous playthroughs. You can even have kit left to you from previous playthroughs. Eventually you should become a true badass yourself, navigating the maps with a sea of destructive fire like a pagan god of war.

"Hyperion recommends channeling your post-death frustration into pre-death vengeful anger!"

Other than "deals of the day" I usually find that vendors are mainly charging inflated prices for gear inferior to what you collect from corpses and loot boxes. The best gear comes from the best loot boxes, some mission completion items, swagmen, and the jamboree you get at beating the final boss - which is kinda the end of the game. You need to upgrade your gear throughout the game mainly (as I said Janey Spriggs gives you an Oz kit which enables you to regain health from air cylinders which I used throughout the game)but the best weapons may last you ten levels before you get anything significantly better. Adapt your play to incorporate your best weapons but sometimes a particularly weapon might just work better for you than a mathmatically superior one.

And yet, you deliberately chose to necro an ancient thread ... with ... a sock-puppet account?

Yeah, sure.

Hahaha, that was a good one :bandit:
Just started the game. Had a rough time with deadlift. Only had starting weapons with the cowgirl since nothing good dropped before hand. Revolver and sniper. The low gravity fighting is annoying AF. I'm guessing the rest of the game is low-G. Actually really turned off with what I'm seeing so far (jack getting stuck by an elevator earlier on). This and Tiny tina's just come off as really low quality games.

<sighs>

Did you DO Janey Springs' side quests? Did you DO Tales from Elpis?

The mission reward is a Maliwan Sniper that does shock damage. It's the PERFECT weapon for killing Deadlift. Stand on the ground at the bottom of his arena, snipe at his head. He dies in about 6 hits.

Yes, there are low gravity sections of the game, there are also full gravity sections. The game has a better physics engine than BL2 did, so there's more going on under the hood.
ok, so yeah, I'll chime in - I have made one of each character, taken them all through the starting missions to unlock their class skill. My goal is to take Athena through the story missions (for the story), and then I want to play... anyone/everyone else to play/play around.

But Athena... sigh... dies a LOT a LOT. I would play until I died on the same encounter/badass over and over, and call it for her on a day, then go play Jack, or Wilhelm, or even Fragtrap.

I know it is a matter of abilities/trees, and playstyle, and equipment, and me adapting to the encounter/enemy (and whether there is an atmosphere or not), but yeah, this seems more intricate than BL1 and BL2, by comparison.

I feel ya.

If you spec for her shield, Athena is one of the toughest, most durable characters in the game. The Phalanx and Xiphos trees both make her tougher (although the Xipos tree is the melee focused one).
and this is exactly why Pre-sequel is my favourite of the series
