Mouse pointer issue

I'm not sure if it's because of the Ubuntu 16.10 upgrade or somehting messed up in the game settings but for a while now I cannot play Talos anymore because as soon as I touch the mouse or touchpad, the view tilts downward and cannot be pointed back up. I can only look at the ground. Movement is possible but pointless since there is no way to around.

I tried switchin off Free View option but that has a weird result: I can now look around but only in clockwise direction, turning right. No matter what the mouse movement is (left,right,up,down) it gets translated into a spin to the right. And a very very fast spin too. Only if I turn down mouse sensitivity to 0.05 it's actually visible that the spinning is to the right and never in any other direction.

Very weird.

Anyone encountered this? Anyone know a solution?

Try to unplug/disable special input devices like gamepad, joystick or some emulators of them before running the game.

Sadly, I tried removing all external devices including the mouse but it makes no difference. :/

UPDATE: turns out that I had switched from Xorg to Wayland on Ubuntu Gnome. Switching back to X solved the mouse issue...
