[ANSWERED] How To Stop Game from Updating?
Hi All...

Before the upcoming release, is there a way I can prevent my game from upgrading? I'm asking, because with every update comes problems for the first few days and it sometimes makes the game unplayable until fixes are pushed.

I'd like to be able to keep my game at the current version and continue playing until the bugs are worked out of the newest release.

I see in the game's properties, under "Updates" there are only 3 settings, none of which let you fully prevent upgrades from taking place. Is there a way to actually prevent them?

Thanks. :smileyflag:

Follow these steps...
1) Launch the Steam client.
2) Right-click on Cities Skylines and select Properties.
3) Click on the "Updates" tab.
4) Change "Automatic Updates" drop-down to "Only update this game when I launch it."
5) Deactivate your interned connection on your computer. (Laptops can turn off wifi.)
6) Launch and play Cities Skylines.
7) When you're done playing, exit Cities Skylines to the desktop.
8) Reactivate your internet connection.

Disable auto updates in steam and disconnect your internet each time you play.

Oh...so I can stop the updates, but it's an overall Steam setting so no games update. That's ok. I can totally deal with that.

I didn't think I could play offline. I play with 120 mods and 6,100 assets.

Offline play may not be an option for some mods.

Thanks for replying. That's what I thought. I use a lot of the heavy hitters that I'm positive don't work offline.

I can't find the setting in Steam preferences to disable auto-downloads. All I can find is to restrict auto-downloads to a certain time period. That still won't work though, if my only (best) game download option is to only update when I launch the game. If I use that setting, will it prompt me if I want to allow it to download?

Thanks for your help.

Oooooooo....:controllerThumbsUp:....Sounds like a decent, temporary workaround might be possible.

What I'll do is check the discussions every day before I launch the game. I'm sure once it's released there will be discussions. :ap_reallyhappy:

Thank you sooooo much. :hardhat:

@Avanya -- I just tested your suggestion and it worked PERFECTLY.

It's basically playing offline with the exception of the initial connection to Steam.

I opened the Steam client, turned off my wifi connection on my laptop, then loaded Cities Skylines. It played as if I were online. All mods worked perfectly.

This is the best workaround for everyone that wants to work offline, except for that first connection to the Steam client.

BRAVO!
