Ram's limit
I have 16gigs of ram. I have heard something about assets and how you can gave only a certain amount when you have xx gigs of ram. Is it assets per city or assets in general and how do I find out how many assets I got?

I´m on 16 GB too and have about 900 assets and 30 Mods in use , but Ram use is depending on what Mods and assets you load . Some are RAM killer

not many mods, just the essential mods, no AI changers and graphic mods and I don't have more than 100 asset mods.

I am using 32GB with 1300 assets and 30 mods

Essential mods? there arn't any.

It's assets and mods in general. You can have as many assets as you want, but you'll end up using swap and that slows the game down. If you don't have swap space and only 16 GB ram with lots of assets, your game will most likely crash when loading a city due to running out of memory.

The issues I just described have happened to me, but I ended up doubling my ram to 32 GB and I never encounter and problems.

A good tool to use to check which assets will affect performance is
Mesh Info

I have only 8GB of RAM, and can run 1400 assets without issue. It takes about 7-10 minutes to load the city, but it still loads. It only crashed when I exceeded 1500 assets. Not sure what assets you guys are using that require 16-32GB.

I also run quite a few mods (10+). However, most mods are more about CPU speed and cores than RAM, especially the AI mods.

NB: I have since cut back on my assets because of those load times... but still, the game works.

that load requires 16GB of RAM, the load time is so long because the game is using your pagefile to run the assets that exceed your physical RAM.

ram makes a BIG difference. I have 32gb DDR4 ram, 1800 assets and about 50 mods all running at once and smoothly and a lot of eye candy mods 2-3 mins loading time. coupled with a 1080 ti my computer makes this game a dream to play.

I am aware. However, the others were saying that it should be crashing, not just taking a long time. It seems to be fine until I get to 1500 assets, but others are suggesting less than 800 or it'll crash.

I was simply trying to tell the OP that it won't necessarily crash and/or become unplayable.

Depends on the assets (tris/texture) too. Imagine 1000 buildings made by BoldlyBuilding. Oof
