Dammit dammit dammit, help
Had to reinstall this game after an OS reinstall and my saved game is gone which had the normal mode completed. I want to re-run this on Professional but I really don't want to beat the campaign all over again.

Is there any way for me to unlock the extras via an ini edit? Would save me a few days hassle.:AshleyRE4:

Nope
Alright. Well that sucks.

Not even sure if I want to replay this on normal. Ugh.. damn it. Stupid decision right there, screwing people out of the game features just because they reinstall the game.

My achievements are there, why the hell is this not enough for me to access professional out of the box?

But steam has cloud saving...did you tried that?

Did you have Steam Cloud save enabled when you originally played the game? If so, you should be able to recover it.

From your Steam client, check the UPDATES tab in RE4 Properties and click the Steam Cloud checkbox. It should say something like "enable Steam cloud synchronization for RE4"

Once the above is done, the game should try to download your previous save on Steam before the game launches.

Irrelevent. Achievements should be proof enough.

I'm gonna have to figure out a way to trick the game into unlocking professional.

I know you are mad at this, but, there isn't any other way around than the Steam Cloud saving system. Trust me this was already asked before and so far no one knows how to unlock things from the start...

All saved games in Steam (as well as settings) are stored locally on your system by default. Generally most of these client side files and saves are located in your My Games directory in your Documents section of Windows.

Next time, before you reinstall your Windows (I'm assuming you're using windows :P) copy your My Games folder and back it up somewhere, then when you reinstall, paste the folder back and you should keep all your controls, graphic settings and saves.

If you did not back up your My Games folder/files and if you did not use the Steam Cloud, then your saves and all your settings are gone.

But fear not, as there is one other possible solution:

Request someone to email / send you their save game files from their My Games folder and put them in your RE4 My Games directory.

In theory, that should work.... but if they already beat Professional, that will mean you did as well. It won't affect your achievements, etc. but it might be best to find someone who at least beat Normal Mode so your game leaves off pretty close to what you had.

^ There you go. I haven't tried this with RE4 or other RE's, but I have copied over other people's ini/cfg files for other games in Steam when I lost mine for whatever reason and worked just fine. In theory, this should work in a similar fashion.

I just looked online in regards to this and it has been mentioned by a number of other people that copying over save files from another source (for the same game) will work.

So, if someone in here is so kind, they may email you their save files and solve your problem. Obviously just make sure you scan the sent files with an anti-virus program..... you never know.

Steam cloud saving very buggy, it can sometime wipe your save data at cloud or dont synch right. This happened to me with COD games, Half Life 2, Portal 1 and few more games.

I suggest to use GameSave Manager + some cloud service such as Mega, Dropbox, SkyDrive to backup your saves there everyday or actually re-route your savedir folders to cloud directory.

Also there is a big issue with saves in RE4 UHD, for some reason they tied in to individual steam profile data and whenever you use someoone other's save, game says its corrupt.

I really hope Qloc could remove this stupid save encryption or profile lock.

/\ Pretty much this, Steam saves are tied to your steam ID, same way old GFWL used to encrypt savegames, so sharing is not an option...

i had this on DmC. lost over 200 hours of gameplay. but for some odd reason, while playing again for a few days. steam suddenly showed a message of using local or cloud which was infact my old save. and i had everything back again. maybe you will have the same luck as mine. and the very same message will pop up :)

he is right, but there are 2 common misues of word Cloud - one means just remote storage, which is nothing new and bad, and another mean remote computing - and this beast if awful idea, its like taking your heart away from your body and giving it to unreliable man, and using some tubes to pump blood to your body from remotely stored heart - if someone will cut these tubes or man you gave your heart will drop support of it - you are cut from your heart and you are so dead!
This is what happens with software that usese cloud computing instead of local - cut connection and local software cant send data for computing. can get computed data and cant compute it locally, and simply becomes broken.
