Potential crash solution
Hi there -

Just creating a separate, sticky thread for higher visibility regarding crashes.

Through our official beta patch threads, we've been advising users to temporarily turn off the anti-virus software if they experience consistent crashes in sections such as the Ch. 3-1 castle water room and Ch. 1-3 swamp area.

Here's a recent example from a user who use BitDefender:
Publicado originalmente por DarkRoad09:
Problem fixed. no crash in the castle so far. I went to bitdefender--->settings/antivirus/ set "on access scanning" to off, and set "active virus control" to off. now game is working fine.

And here's a snip from the official beta thread:

Reproducible Crashes
If you are experiencing crashes repeatedly in the same area (such as the swamp area), there is a chance that your anti-virus software may be deleting important game files or simply preventing the game from accessing certain files. If so, please try the following steps in order to isolate the issue:

1) Disable or temporarily shut down the anti-virus software
2) Open Steam client, right-click on Resident Evil 4 from Library, and select Properties
3) Click Local Files tab and select 'Verify integrity of game cache..."
4) Once the verification process completes, launch the game and verify if the crash still occurs (make sure to keep the anti-virus software turned off during this test)

Please also check the following two Steam Support articles which covers crashes as it relates to anti-virus software and other 'hidden' Windows processes that may interfere with the game and/or Steam client.

1. Programs Which May Interfere with Steam
2. Antivirus software reports Steam games are malicious

Please let us know if this solved your problem. Thanks!

i was having the same issue and i would get to where the bell rings and it would crash maybe 5 minutes or so later. after that i shut my computer down for the rest of the day then when i went on the next day it let me play for four hours and i got all the way to castle no issue. i then stopped playing and came back the next day and progressed a little further to the garador then stopped and now its back to crashing every time i go into the room where you have cover ashley while she turns the cranks. i tried shutting off my anitivirus as well the first time and nothing worked

It doesn't work. I have this issues even without antivirus. And I found Windows log that xactengine3_7.dll crashed. I don't know what happened. Maybe this is buggy.

i crashed on the third chapter at the beginning

At some parts of game game crashes, like chapter 2-1.
What worked for me in those situations was going into \Documents\My Games\Capcom\RE4, and opening config.ini with notepad.
There i changed antialising from 1 to 0, and that solved my problem.
Also if that doesn't work change variableframerate from 30 to 20,but keep in mind game will be very slow (but playable). Try changing it back to 30 after you pass area that causes crash and save your game.

I'm also experiencing crashes during the very first leg of the game. When first entering Pueblo, the game will crash. Varies between well before or a minute after the bell. This is ridiculous.

Having same issue as Elven

What about if the game crashes during the launch? I haven't played the game yet so this is a continuous problem - I also don't ace any anti-virus up and running so that can't be my issue. I just open the game and is instantly crashes, with Windows telling me the game had stopped working.
I love you all

Hello world, may have found a potential fix for the crash at launch issue affecting players, well windows 7 users at least. I tried eveything suggested thoughout the forums, updated drivers, direct x, reinstalled, verifyed the files, used ver 1.02, you name it. Nothing worked until i installed this windows update: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36805
Not sure if there is an equivelent for Win 10 users but, best of luck!

So I can only play the game for about 10-20 minutes before it stops and crashes, windows says its trying to find ways to fix the problem, but nothing. Ive turned off anti virus, deleted corrupt files and verified the game cache. Everything is updated and I still have game crashes. Please help

Yeah, the other people I've seen having the crash at launch are running windows 10 as well as myself, so we're still searching for a fix if you find one!

It'd be nice if this outdated thread was updated with reasons as to why many windows 10 users can't pay the game they paid for CAPCOM
:LeonRE4: Theres alot of games that wont work on win 10 which is why I opted out on it specially being its not as great as it seemed. Got to try it did not like it hardly compatible with anything cept for xbox one controlls which was the big thing about it and thats it. Heck I was having enough issues with some games now not playing on win 8, was far better off on vista or win 7 least they had compatibility with alot of games while win vista could be the only one that could play some of my old classic games I still have on disc. at any rate capcom already mentioned somewhere I read they are finished updating res 4 HD and there hasnt been a single update in a very long time now since last one that was supposed to have fixed alot of things, sooo I wouldnt expect any response from capcom or any updates for this game either. Sadly its dead and as for me its back to my good ol trusty playstation 2 for RE4 so I'm happy but still highly dissappointed. Purchase well wasted all in all far as this version is concerned. :LeonRE4:

Are you running the game fine on Win 8?
Zera of Palestein 8 NOV 2015 a las 1:00 p. m.
Tried turning off Windows Defender, but still no use.
Game keeps crashing within 10 ~ 30 minutes.

I tried going to 1.02 beta version, kept crashing as usual.
Tried re-installing DirectX, VC++ 2010, 2011, 2012,2013 and 2015
Verified Cache

Still no result.

OS: Windows 10 Home 64-Bit (Upgraded from 8.1 if this helps (no clean install)
RAM: 8GB
GPU: Geforce 850M 4GB VRAM (with latest update)
CPU: Intel i7 2.00Ghz (4 CPU) ~ 2.6Ghz (direct information from Dxdiag)
