Why does RE4 has such a sh♥tty story?
The game is a masterpiece, but the story is complete trash. Resident Evil never had a brilliant story, but it made sense at least. Here, you have to save the US President's daughter by yourself, because a cult in Rural Spain captured her. How ridiculous is that?

It's like that on purpose, it's self aware camp.

If that's the case then Shinji Mikami never cared about the RE lore to begin with. Hmm.

He specifically made it cheesy. It’s on interviews. Here are some serious moments but the plot is b-movie action with zombies. I love the plot for that.

When the hell did I say that? No, it's just dump, cheesy and camp on purpose this time, instead of by accident like the previous games

I think you're not seeing the big picture and taking it literally with those words.
If Mikami did the RE4 story intentionally cheesy, then he didn't cared about making the story of the RE series something serious.
You'll have to ask Mikami himself about that. Either way he clearly made the right choice.

Separate Ways is way more serious. It also shows that Mikami made the main story silly on purpose, but the side story with Ada and Wesker is still serious.

Wait, Wesker is trying to be serious?!

If ı had to list the re games plot from most serious to least serious that would be:

Re6, re5, other re games except re1 and re4, re4, re1.

(Wesker, you are pitiful.) , (Rain or shine, you are going down!)

Examples of 10/10 cheesy lines.

He isn’t doing much in Separate Ways besides a few mind games with Ada. Unless you count Mercenary mode where he can punch ganados

well it is resident evil lol, its not like say game of thrones levels of story, also when i think about it i cant really think of many games with a serious story that makes sense apart from a few so i'll list them all here and yeah i'm aware you want the story to make sense but i'm an action guy so alot of these will be action oriented games, if you want some other genres, ask and i'll deliver

-Splinter Cell series
-GTA IV, San Andreas, Vice City, Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories And GTA III
-Sleeping Dogs
-Metal Gear Solid Series (mostly MGS Snake Eater tho)
-Farcry 3
-Hitman Series
-Assassin's Creed Series
-Killzone Series (only on ps3 tho, sadly ._.)

thats some at the moment i can think of however i might edit this, also i'm not trying to insult you with this, i mean no harm :)

Metal Gear Solid 2 has my favorite story in the series. It’s all about the dangers of technology predicted perfectly in 2000. Kojima predicted it very well.

My guess is because it is the third game they made. Based on what we know of the original RE4, it was meant to be a much more serious, dark horror story.

Yes, the B movie lines and style was always part of the series, but the dialogues here are just plain stupid. The plot is even stupider, once you read files and realise that the backup plan of "President's daughter infests daddy and the entire government" fails was "invade the United States with my army of crossbow-wielding 200 soldiers".

No wonder this is the only game where they kept the existence of the parasites and pretty much threw everything else from the referenced canon.

But the Las Plagas parasites show up in RE5 as well.

Mikami never cared much about the story in RE games (He was against adding a plot to the first game), and in fact Capcom didn't hire a writer for RE4 after Kawamura (writer of the 3.5 script) left the project. So they just decided to go with some random plot without much effort.

Look at the credits of the game, you'll see nobody was credited as Scenario Writer.

It has been designed as a side-story. They actually had some interesting plot ideas but decided to put the series main story on hold and save those ideas for future games.

Yes. 4 only has minor plot moments that move it forward, mostly just Ada retrieving a plaga sample. That was the point though. 4 is a fun story with creepy moments, and funny dialogue. 5 was similar, but it was too similar and it lacked charm.
