Dated graphics and a more hardcore experience with no visible need zones. Classic.
Don't mind paying for a mass of maps and weapon DLC but get a shifting bug problem with each release. COTW.
Want to try the basic game experience for free but realise almost EVERYTHING has to be paid for with game money from grinding missions, or for an easier life bought with real money. Classic.
Those are the basic choices. I played COTW for ~100 hours and became annoyed by the bugs so tried Classic. A few thousand hours later I prefer it. There is always something to do - Daily missions, comps, events etc. COTW has far fewer missions and things to do outside of the shooting gallery meatfest. You can view all your stats of EVERY hunt you've done in Classic, since the data is on a central server along with the stats of EVERY animal you harvested, it's B&C score and data, what co-ordinates you shot it from with what weapon and stance, whether a stand was used etc. You could spend many hours pouring over past hunts, and viewing your weapon and skill stats if you wanted. You don't just have a rifle/bow/handgun/shotgun or "tracking" blanket skill, it's per weapon, and spotting and tracking are in 20 level increments per individual species or weapon. There are no perks and I can only improve my skills by using that weapon or tracking or spotting that animal. The XP earned from doing so only apply to that skill for that weapon or animal.
That is the basic reason I play Classic over COTW.
Only time I play cotw is when I feel like going around just killing a bunch of animals in a short amount of time. N with the glock n 308 ar they added it becomes more like cod/etc and less like hunting.
Then again I run around n kill everything I see in classic aswell, but in classic they actually try to flee.
Do you want to hunt, or do you just want to just kill a lot of animals?
Then your decision is easy.
Hunt: Classic
Arcade, FPS deathmatch kill stuff: Call of the Wild.
Wonk with bugs: Way of the Hunter.
Old but good: Deer Hunter 5 or 2005.
This game's free. It's not going to cost you anything to install it and check it out.
Classic is clearly the best simulation of the two but it’s a bit too much for me.
Depends on what you are looking for really.
