A Hat in Time

Collect 100 pons is a prime example of what makes people angry(Topic edited)
I won't try to hide it, I made this thread in a fit of salty rage. I haden't played in a while and had forgotten half the mechanics, so instead of being reasonable, I threw a hissy fit and cried about it in the Discussions.

"Deat Wish" is a fitting name for the default challenges, I know there are masochists who love this kind of torture, and for the casual fans of the game P&Q mode brings the challenges down to the difficulty of the base game if not even lower.
I believe there are people good enough at this game to not need P&Q, tweak it how you will GFB, but it's not as bad as people are letting on.

I'd like to say thank you to GFB for giving out the DLC for free on its launch day, you don't deserve the anger currently going around the discussions.

The people saying the DLC is bad or should be changed are just as salty as I was, the only trouble I have is the cruise ship being confusing to navigate.
Everything is perfectly obtainable, just enable P&Q and enjoy your time. After all, it does say it's a no judgement zone.

I think there should be a new achievement for beating all the Death Wish challenges without P&Q enabled.
That way everyone can continue enjoying the game's full content while the extreme people who can take the heat get a shiny new achievement saying they're insane.

I know there are people ITT who may consider my change of attitude a betrayal, but trust me, that's just the salt talking. I would know.

Origonal post: Amount collected degrades over time? This requires knowing the game better than the back of your hand.
This is telling the game's core audience, for lack of better words, to ♥♥♥♥ off.

Least favorite contract for me so far.

In theory, it's a neat concept and there's a lot of places to collect pons quickly, but the rate at which they drain is a bit steep and at most I only had about 40 at one time. It seemed like I'd find a spot with a ton of them grouped together, pick them all up, and in just a couple seconds be back to square one. In my opinion, Death Wish should be about how well we've learned the controls and advanced mechanics, not necessarily how well we've memorized an entire map. They've made a number of strong changes to Death With over the past couple days, easy mode now unlocks the cosmetic rewards, can be disabled and enabled easily, costs 30 pons instead of six yarn, and most levels had their three lives restriction cut, but there's still a few more issues I'd like to see ironed out to make DW a hard-yet-fair challenge.

You're right, just now I am about to ram my head against the wall since I can't for the life of me get past the conductor train contract I've had 177 deaths so far. And for the pon contract I am not going to put myself through hell to do the bonus objectives.

That basically sums up the entire dlc for me.

Death Wish is SUPPOSED to be balls hard. Vinny from Vinesauce, an avid streamer of this game when it was first released, who was known to beat Mario Sunshine's Pachinco Level on the first try, had trouble with even the first contract.

I agree that this contract is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but stating that they're telling their core audience to ♥♥♥♥ off is insane to me. They got complaints from the community that the game was too easy at times so they made a hard mode for the people that wanted it. Hopefully they improve the challenges to keep them as difficult but in a way that's fair.

To be fair, Binyot hadn't played the game in almost a year and it took him 10 minutes to even find the laundry room AFTER pressing the chapter unlock screen.

Also the paсhinko was just dumb luck.

I personally feel Collect-A-Thon is the best contract of all the ones I've played so far. It's a pure test of both the player's skill and their knowledge of one of the game's most intricately routeable locations, focusing on one of the most gratifying aspects of 3D platformers: grabbing pretty shiny things. Almost every direction is a viable option from almost every location, allowing for a ton of experimentation.
The rate at which pons decay is something to catch one off guard, but I didn’t struggle too much with it after the initial “what the hells going on” run. DO NOT try to do all objectives at once, it’s incredibly difficult that way. Breaking boxes is an easy way to get to 100 really fast so just go around exploding all the shiny things! Breaking the circular time trial pon orbs also is nice, and there’s a huge amount of orbs at the construction area and the water gushing out st the top (which also happens to have lots of breakable boxes for tons more orbs.. I got to 80 pons in my total very fast this way)

I first open the red safe, go to construction zone, clear out the water in the center, and move on to break the boxes around the edges of the map and what’s at the slides at the beach. Usually gets me enough

The base game sets the standard difficulty for the game. This is not Celeste or Cloudbuilt. Don't defend the developers when they are alienating their core group of fans. No one picked up a hat in time because they wanted a hard as balls platformer. They got it because it was a "cute as heck" fun platformer, collectathon where it was fun to 100% the game. Death wish stands in dirrect opposition of everything the main game does and stands for. If you want to speed run the game fine, do it. But don't tell me any part of A Hat in Time should be balanced around the assumption that you are a speedrunner.

Just use the judgement free feature that makes death wish easier. You don't lose anything except a few pons for using it.

the time stop hat helps a ton.

You're making the grand assumption that every part of a game has to be intended for the same people. Death Wish isn't made for everyone that plays A Hat in Time. It's completely optional content. It's for those who want a challenge that the main game can't provide. It's like complaining that Halo 3 stuck some unlocks behind legendary difficulty, because the main audience would, more than likely, stick with normal or heroic.
As soon as the contract starts open all the safes, save the two civilians being beat on by the mafia and break open all boxes. Do not pick up any pons while setting all of this up. Then when you are ready equip the magnet badge and collect all of the pons. Time stop hat recommended.

Why the time stop hat? Does it even decrease the pon decay? I thought it didn't affect it at all.
