Lost Save Data
Before making any changes to your save files, please make sure that you copy and back up the SaveData folder elsewhere for safety

If you are presented with unlocks and all presets/settings are reset when booting up
  • Disable (and keep off) Steam Cloud Sync for Rocket League
  • Go to the directory %userprofile%\Documents\my games\Rocket League\TAGame\
  • Rename the folder SaveData to SavedData
  • Reboot Rocket League and recreate a preset and your settings
  • Restart Rocket League again and see if the changes stayed

Advanced troubleshooting only (at your own risk)

You've lost your save data or you cannot progress anymore?
If you're stuck getting reset back to yesterday's progress and can't get any farther, it's likely that Steam Cloud Sync has a corrupted file and won't take in your current save anymore. The fastest course of action is to turn off Steam Cloud Sync, which should help in this case.

Here's a solution from reddit that has been helpful for some. If it works for you then let me know!

Remember to back up any information/data that you may be deleting as you are deleting save information. Doing this solution will be at your own risk, but with proper precaution you should be 100% fine.

In ~/Documents/My Games/Rocket League/TAGame/SaveData/DBE_Production/ there are all your save files.

  1. Sort the SaveData by descending date.
  2. Find your 2nd-to-latest save data (probably 3 and 4 from the top).
  3. Move your last two (corrupted) *.save files to a new folder.
  4. Rename the two most recent (non-corrupted) save files to the two that you just moved. (One will probably end in "_2").
  5. DISABLE STEAM CLOUD SYNC! and Start Rocket League.
It will probably work but you aren't finished. Your save data is most likely corrupted in the Steam cloud, so we gotta fix that. Here's how:
  1. Quit Rocket League
  2. Disable Steam Cloud sync.
  3. Delete all files in this folder: /Steam/userdata/STEAM_ID/252950
  4. Start Rocket League and wait a minute or so.
  5. Quit Rocket League and Steam
  6. Delete remotecache.vdf in /Steam/userdata/STEAM_ID/252950.
  7. Start Steam
  8. Enable Steam Cloud sync for Rocket League.
  9. Wait a few seconds... If nothing happens, try to start Rocket League.
  10. Steam Cloud Sync Conflict should open!
  11. Go back to /Steam/userdata/SteamID/AppID and delete ALL the files in it (WHILE the Sync Conflict dialog is still open!)
  12. Go back to the Cloud Sync Conflict dialog and click on "Upload to the Steam Cloud". Steam will sync your AppID folder with nothing in it, and basically delete all cloud files for Rocket League.
  13. Rocket League should start! Fix all your settings and anything and quit Rocket League.
  14. Wait for Steam to resync your new non-corrupted data with the Cloud.
  15. Start Rocket League again and confirm you fixed everything!

This does not sound like a Save Data issue as the only way you can lose items is if you trade them in or to another player.
asnd this is why people should be doing 24h Daily backupsd of there entire C: drive... hell I have Windows 10 File history doing 10min backup of key folder inc Documents...
I can confirm that all these steps DONT work ! (Atleast not for me) even better! the directory where my saved files SHOULD be is empty even after 2hours of playing.. i lose all my stuff everytime i start up my game. i get everything back but still this should'nt be happening -,- is there a fix that works ???
DISSABLE YOUR ANTI-VIRUS !! See if you still get the faild to save file message. If not then you have to allow your anti-virus the game directory + save directory ;)
Even as a Linux user i can *not* recommend any Windows user to disable his' AV (no matter how "effective" these programs pretend to protect you from viruses etc.).

Inside the "DBE_Production" folder should be the savegames for any steam account that played RL on the currently logged in OS account (the "long number" the savegame starts with is according to the player). The endings "_1.save" and "_2.save" are two versions of the according player's savegame file - think of the "_2.save version" as a kind of "internal backup" if things go wrong in the "real" savegame.

Filesize should be around 100kiB to 200kiB (just a little check - if filesize is e.g. a few MiB or only 10kIB it might be corrupted).

I sometimes (but not always) have a corrupted savegame file, too. But the corruption is very likely to take place when starting up the game during the "steam cloud sync" step, as the manually backed up files *after closing* the game post-playing are "correct" and you can replace the corrupted ones with them.

My method to check if again a corruption has occurred is that i "remember" (screenshot, as i am lazy) my "played games" in the carrer sub menu - if those are less when i start the game then last time i quit the game it corrupted the savegame files and/or steam cloud overwrote the "correct" local ones with an *OLD* copy which resided in the steam cloud.
The "wrong" behavior is most times co-indicated with a "you have got new items" thingy when starting the game.

@Dirkened: please check if it's possible to opt-out of "saving replays into the steam cloud", as my current thoughts go into the "buffer overflow leads to file corruption" direction on the steam cloud side. PM me for further details if neccessary.

Well i dissabled my AV and it work perfectly after that. So i knew my AV was the problem and not something else. i did'nt get the error message anymore so i approved any writing or changing into my save files from RL. = Problem solved (for me)
...as Dirkened doesn't share much love with me, i investigated a bit further and found the following resources for my "suspected Steam Cloud Sync 'Storage Is Full' Issue":

https://steamdb.info/app/252950/ufs/
https://github.com/GMMan/SteamCloudFileManagerLite/tree/upload-support

On the SteamDB website you can see the paths where your savegames are located in each OS - for me the "group 4 and group 5" are interesting as a Linux user (Ubuntu 18.04).
It also states that "in general" (OS indipendent, only related to Steam Cloud) there is a limit of a little less than 100MiB (which you might have also guessed in the game's local files detail page inside the steam library) but also a max. number of 200 files.

Maybe if "you" upload alot of replays (more than 200 files) your savegame might - in this process - get corrupted, pushed out of your Cloud storage, given as gift to 4 newborn baby kittens, carried to valhalla or whatever - that needs some feedback from "some Psyonix guy", that clarifies how they implemented the savegame and replay syncing with Steam Cloud.

You don't have to use the tools mentiond above (and i haven't tested them yet or looked at the code if it's malicious), but if you want to, feel free to do so. I will do it when i have a little bit more spare time; until then i use my own "RL savegame file(s) backup script" i wrote since my confidence in the way Psyonix/Steam does it was shaken.

@Thrifter:
But again, don't trust other people's code "per se" or run it even as root/admin or without the proper protection (e.g. antivirus/firewall when on Windows) or preparation (e.g. manual backup of all important files)! One time might be enough if you "make love without a condom" and you might only know when someone that *you* have infected tells you that he's got "it" from you - if you don't care about yourselves, at least care for your beloved ones :steammocking:
i Had problem with trading i trade my wheels and keys for some items like: Hellfire, Breakout Type-S and Synthwave, but probleme is i get those for idk 20min. ? and then they vanished i reload game look on data i saved but nothing... idk they just vanished guys that i traded my items got them why me not ?
Maybe you:
1.lie (yes, in times of the internet you meet interestingly behaving people)
2.got scammed (although you should have noticed this; but this is unlikely as you see the items for a short period of time as you state)
3.experienced a severe bug, that you should report to psyonix via mail or in the appropriate sub forum.

In my experience when my savegame gets corrupted (and an older Version is loaded from Steam Cloud) when i start the game i get instant notifications about all "new items" that i earned in the time between the old savegame's state (which is 'actively loaded' and the new ones' state (that got deleted somehow). -> No items "lost".
So in my opinion it looks like that they switched at some point of time to "server side stored items", otherwise my "items since the last/old savegame state" would simply disappear into the ether and i could restore them with putting the backup savegame back into place.

I haven't tried the other way around (e.g. overwriting my current savegame with a far older backup) just to see if i can let my items disappear, but i also do not have any intention to do so.

---

I'd recommend that you contact Psyonix directly (e.g. eMail) and tell them about your strange behaviour. Make sure to include alot of your system's general details (Hardware, used OS, Internet connection type (direct/VPN), country you live in, steam username) but not any too personal information such as passwords, tokens, keys, ....

I talked with our client team and they mentioned that replays should not be saving to the Steam cloud, and only SaveData should be, but it seems like that's not the case so I'll make sure that we investigate it more.

I don't see any history of you owning Hellfire, and when you received the Breakout Type-S, you traded it away 9 minutes later, and you traded away the Synthwave about 45 minutes later.
We've increase the file limit to 5k files, so hopefully that will resolve any more corruption issues of this sort. If not, we'll look back at it again and reassess
When I opened rocket league, my presets were still there but my video settings and camera controls reset. Turning off cloud save actually worked for me so anyone should mb try that
Renaming the folder from "SaveData" to "SavedData" solved it. Thanks
I was level 200, now im 73 and i lost my presets and other. I was trying everything you said but didnt help. What does it mean that you have our back up database? I need help please :(
I just faced i problem. Somehow, when I restarted my game all my valuable items just disappeared! I didn’t give my password to anyone and I didn’t trade with anyone. I need help!
