Rocket League 'depression'
For lack of a better definition, I am calling this phenomenon Rocket League depression.

It's that time where you feel like you just suck, like you went back in time and lost half of your entire progress. You miss the most basic shots and saves, you cannot anticipate or predict, and your mind just doesn't seem to want to be busy with Rocket League.

Taking a day off doesn't work. Taking two off doesn't either. I have not yet tried to stop playing for longer than that in fear of losing my edge, and having to spend a lot of hours sharpening my skills again.

I'm not at all very good or have many hours in this game, 134 hours on 2 platforms in total.

I've had one little dip in my 'career' so far, where I felt like I was doing poorly for a couple of days. But this is different as this has been going on for over a week now. Whenever I do play, there will almost always be one or more teammates or opponents that are very negative towards me which really doesn't help.

My questions are:

- What could be the best amount of time to stop? I want to feel better in RL again, but I don't want to end up having to spend too much time on regaining skills.

- Does not playing for over 2 days even work? Has it helped anyone?

By the way I am not depressed in real life or anything, I think.

I don't feel it's really that big of a deal, I stop playing for months at a time and when I get back it's not really that much worse.

Might be different for purely 1v1 or for people who play at grand champion level, but skill is such a broad thing in this game when you play with other people, that it really doesn't change much.

Take 10 people from the same rank and they'll differ vastly in skill and abilities, so I really wouldn't worry about it.

depression is not real. its just an excuse to do nothing.
depression is just an illusion that the devil creates to hypnotise us people....

this may sounds like some alex jones **** but i belive in it :D
Do you want to play because you enjoy playing it? So play it normally, chill, with music, or not, idk.
Do you want to be good? Then train, progress and achievments doesnt show up unless you train, i mean, real training, even if you dont feel like it. If you want to be good, you dont have to wait to train when you feel ready to do it, but when you dont want to train, thats when you have to do it.

If you feel empty, depression, lazy, start sleeping good, mind on what you are eating daily, go jogging or do a short walk around the block.

This happens to me as well. I have over 1,500 hours logged into the game but some days I just don't play very well. I'll miss easy shots, saves, etc. and I'm a Diamond player. The only way for this to be fixed, at least for me, is to take a break. I'll play another game for a bit and then later in the day I'll hop back on and I'm fine.

I also like to take walks. Listening to music and taking a walk is relaxing (and gets me off of the computer for a good hour or two) and when I get back home I feel refreshed and ready to play more games. This seems to work the best for me.

I've had this or at least something similar to this. Usually I play casual with friends and I have a lot of fun but after a while I just feel like I'm garbage and it's 100% my fault we're losing. I'm gold and they're pretty much all champs. I usually get drained from the game and I just stop playing for a week, or a couple weeks, or a month, or two months. But whenever I do actually come back to the game to play again, I find that I actually want to play again and I perform a heck of a lot better.

Just do something else for a while and you'll have some fun with that (hopefully) and then come back when you want to, not because you think you'll get bad, but because you want to play. For some pleople all it takes it a walk, or a day off. For some others it takes longer, a week or a month but if you come back when you want to, you'll have a better outlook when reapproaching the game and probably notice that you're having fun.

Unless you're one of those competetive junkies, then don't take a break and do every single practice in existence 20 times each and then play a couple thousand matches, and hey, you'll probably get better eventually. Probably.

Short breaks can be a great way to improve. It allows your brain to forget your short term bad habits while retaining the core skills you practiced the most.

Thanks everyone for the replies, I have decided to just wait for a couple of more days, and when I feel like playing again, I will. I never cared much for my rank but I don't want it dropping unneccesarily so I will play casual when I eventually get back to the game, maybe with some other people.

Same thing here with 120 hours. Nothing seems really fun, i only enjoy those moments where i look cool, but those moments become super rare. Training is really boring, so im lost what to do.

Depression or not, I do seem to miss things I used to hit 100%. :P

I am currently on my third day off, I will attempt to play again after 1 week of not playing. I already feel like I want to play the game again, which is a good sign possibly, that motivation might help.
i can tell you right now. that won't change. i took off 2 months because toxic people and me playing worse than i ever have played was making me hate this game. I muted chat but without some kind of feedback or communication what is this game if it is about teamwork ? nothing. so i sat back and just didn't touch the game for 2 months or so. I started playing with a friend of mine that was totally new to the game and some of his friends that weren't that bad. I was on a high level. I hit shots i used to hit when i was highly competitive. but i was having fun and not really caring about if i scored or not. i was just having fun. 3 weeks gone now and I'm starting to get worse again. What I'm saying is that i don't know how to contain this consistancy but it is surely easier if you play with friends and mute eventually toxic players since they don't make the experience you're getting any better.

Good to know. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I think maybe the best thing for me to do will also be to play less. Like, 5 hours every week or something. Right now, you can divide my entire PC playtime in two periods. There's one period when I just bought it, where I played it for 28 hours or something in 1 week, and the second period is the one I was in when this 'depression' thing hit me, which is the other 56 hours which I played in about 2.5 weeks. It's just too much. I am going to more evenly distribute the playtime from now on.
