144 FPS feels like 40
What's wrong with the smoothiness of this game? I've got over 70 FPS with everything maxed out, and consistent 100-144 FPS with "Competitive" settings (Low FXAA, low world details, all ticks off except for good shadows). V Sync is off in both settings. My ping is never above 60 ms.

But game just feels super jerky on like half of maps. Especially on Wasteland and new beach map (despite having 100-144 FPS on them too). I literally feel like I'm playing in 30-40 FPS, then raise my eyes to FPS counter to see reassuring 144 FPS.

There is simply no smoothness in this game. And this lag with unknown source is really taking a toll on my already crappy skills.

Last time I played RL obsessivly (like 6-8 month ago) I don't remember having problems with this game. Decided to try my luck in new season and BAM - can't play with the same level of comfort I'm used to.

Am I the only one experiencing this issue? Did they change smth drastically?

Yes, same problem here. Usually I have the game on max except motion blur and maintain over 80 fps. Recently, on some maps like wasteland, it drops to 40.

It's a stuttery mess at most times here too... really annoying. Frames stay solid all the time, but it feels awful with the stutters.

Did try complete reinstall of the gfx drivers with DDU (after the latest win10 update), did nothing.

I followed the DDU advice from the mod as well. Tried everything. Reinstalled old drivers, new drivers...I tried playing again last night and had a few matches with no problems. Tried it just now. Took about fifteen seconds for the bug to kick in. STRANGELY my fps now went from the stable 144 down to anything from 120ish and up but the stuttering was still there. I sort of rediscovered this game a couple of months ago and have been playing a bit and really love it but I'm absolutely fed up of trying to fix one game when I have a thousand other games to play. Maybe it'll magically work again in the future.

TL;DR - Disable VSync (ingame and GPU settings). Disable FreeSync/GSync (for RL. In GPU settings). Disable dynamic shadows and use proper competitive settings: https://i.imgur.com/fDUQ4bw.jpg
Make sure your monitor is actually set to 144Hz and not 60Hz (in monitor settings and in windows settings).

--------------------------------
You don't need dynamic shadows. IIRC they can drop about 60-100 FPS.

Use these settings (proper competitive settings. even squishy uses them AMG):

Your PC should handle 1080P, 250 FPS. If you get GPU overheating, you can lower the FPS cap. The more FPS in rocket league, the better though (Even if you only have a 144Hz monitor, 250 is better than 144). Make sure its stable though (no drops. varying FPS is horrible). Enable steam FPS counter.

DONT enable VSync (I've seen some comments recommending it). Even though it eliminates frame tearing, it adds a lot of input lag, which is critical in RL. In high FPS you don't notice frame tearing anyway.

I'm guessing your stuttering is created by either FPS drops (non stable FPS), or the fact you constantly jump into and out of the F/GSync threshold. IIRC it is recommended to set FPS to 140 if the Sync threshold is 144.
Unfortunately, for RL, that 140 FPS (compared to possible 250) is too big of a cost to get Sync on. Not only that, even if minor compared to VSync, F/GSync does add SOME input lag. Even having it enabled, but being outside of the Sync threshold adds some input lag and can cause stuttering. So just disable any Syncs in your GPU settings.

It could also be due to your GPU throttling (reducing frequency in order to generate less heat), due to overheating. So pay attention to GPU temps (MSI Afterburner is a nice program for that, that also lets you set a custom GPU fans curve).

It could of course be many other things. You could try reinstalling drivers, RL, Windows etc.

Also check out the "slow car bug".

Another thing to add, which might affect some. (It did in my case, it seems)

Aynone who has discord on (even if not in voice chat with anyone), and is using NVIDIA card. Discord appears to have some unwanted gfx card usage, even if HW acceleration is set off in discord settings.
So make a profile in nvidia control panel for discord and set Gsync off (can also play safe and set all available settings off) I'm not sure if this is only an issue for gsync users, might be.

I actually recall having that set long time before, but with every clean gfx driver install, those will get reset.

It seemed to have helped my issue significantly. (from extremely close to unplayable to really playable indeed.)

Umm.. Not really helped that much after all.. I'm beginning to think the online part might have a part in it too. I've tried multiple local games up to 4v4, and it seems to run smoother for sure.

Ok, the game is now playable but still not quite the same as before.

I had turned nvidia overlay for another game and just for the sake of it turned off. Turning it off improved a lot, it was unplayable even at low settings I would have constant 144 fps that suddenly dropped to 100.

Again, it's still not quite as before, Im still having some issues but this helped a lot.

Do with this as you will. I made a bat file and ran the script which disables the xbox background processes. So far so good.
Since you are alwayyyyys turning and making horizontal moves.. vsync, you want it.

That fisher. No need a script to disable xbox process dude.

No, you dont.

VSync eliminates frame tearing at the cost of a LOT of input lag.
Not only that, it also limits your FPS cap to that of your monitor's refresh rate (in RL you want as much FPS as possible. Even more than your monitor's refresh rate).

In RL input lag and FPS are a big deal, and frame tearing is insignificant, especially at high FPS. If for some reason frame tearing bothers you, you could use GSync/FreeSync, which adds a lot less input lag than VSync. (But, as said, optimal RL settings[i.imgur.com] (see my previous comment), full screen, 250FPS, everything disabled and on performance (except render quality) and no V/G/F-Sync).

I don't understand why you spread misinformation like that, but you definitely DONT want VSync in RL.

I know what input lag is since cs1.6. I can tell you I got no input lag with vsync on atm. @144Hz displayport

The fact you don't consciously notice it, does not mean you don't have it or that it doesn't affect your performance in game.

Seeing as you think you don't have it, I have to conclude you don't, in fact, "know what input lag is since cs1.6", and that you didn't bother watching the videos I've linked.

You can do whatever you want with your playtime, but why spread misinformation like that?

Show me one pro that has VSync enabled please.

Anyone interested in optimal performance competitive settings should NOT have VSync enabled.
