Defending
*sigh*

If you say 'defending' at the start of a game/after a goal, it means you're defending until a goal is scored. It does not mean you're defending for a few seconds. Why do so many people say 'defending' and then expect the others to know no one is back there? wtf??

My understanding is that it means that you are defending on the kickoff (especially helpful if two cars are on the goal line) Once play starts most players rotate positions as using static positions is far less effective.

They should be using "defending" and "attacking" when switching positions, I use "defending" every time I'm behind my teammate/s to let them know I got their back, of course if I get a shot and go for it I hope for them to acknowledge that I'm not behind them anymore, since they can SEE I'm on the ball

I agree 100% I use defending on kick offs when I am in the rear position. It doesn't meam I am gonna sit in goal the whole time. Rotate as needed after kick off. And ffs if you are "defending" do NOT run to the side to get boost.

Agreed. If not communicated properly it would just result in a free goal.

Actually it just means they're defending for the kickoff and shortly after if needed. No one sits in net until a goal is scored unless they're bad.

Also they expect their teammates to know no one is behind them because that's how rotations work. If anything they're probably mad at you for not rotating back when they move up on a ball that's theirs to make a play on.

When I say "Defending."

1. At kickoff and I choose to stay back.
2. Everytime I'm rotating back to net until I get a mic. Mainly used when no one can see me going back, for example when the goals are empty.

That's about it tbh.

Then of course you rotate out of goals, let someone fill your spot and fill up on the back boosts. They don't need to say "Defending" because I can see that they're coming back, and the other person doesn't have to know. It's a lot better if he does know and that the person coming back always says "Defending," but this rarely happens. I try to stay in my half until someone comes back.

Defending just means for the kickoff, and is generally used when there are 2 people in position for the kickoff, and is a replacement for ''Take the shot''

The game is about rotation, no one should be defending untill a goal is scored.

Except it actually means that. I'm not going to be stuck in the goal forever just because U said "defending" during a particular play or turnover.

Anyway, just my 2 cents, defending in certain languages could just be "defense", so they may even be telling you to defend. In the Spanish translation it was "defense" forever untill not so long ago it was corrected and it says something like "I defend".

No, it means I'm in the goal until the first time we have to rotate.

If someone says "defending" at kickoff it's the same as someone saying "I got it" - it doesn't mean they "got it" for the whole bloody game.

it means i will stay back while you my teamate/s attack the ball only at the kickoff,
L O F T Y Dec 15, 2016 @ 7:51am
That's not how rotation works. When someone comes back for boost, it's basically a position switch.

I confirm, the italian translation does that, it's not translated "defending" but "in defence"

Not everyone wants to be sitting still bored out of their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ minds at the goal, if i say i'm defending, i'm gonna be defending until the ball is far away from the goal and/or i feel like it's more useful for the team to be in the goal, i'm not staying in it until we get a goal then decide to switch positions that's just flat out stupid, and a waste of playtime learning how to score goals
