Best Controller Layout?
I have a few hundred hours on keyboard and mouse, and I've heard that controller gives you more car control. What is the best control setup for a semi-experienced player like myself? I'm looking for something that will have me set for as long as possible.

And yes, I know it all comes down to personal preference. I'm just looking for a good starting point.

I'm not joking neither. Adjust to your liking and not copy another.

Alright so I used to play both kb+m and controller, yes both. This was because I couldn't get my kickoffs to work with any control scheme on controller. Eventually I moved to controller only and it was these controls I found comfortable (Xbox 360 controller):
LT-reverse
RT-accelerate
LB-air roll left
RB- air roll right / handbrake
X-rear view
A-jump
B-boost
Y-ball cam
Select-score board

It's a little weird to get used to, but you just keep your thumb between the A and B button to switch between the two and/or simultaneously press them.
If these don't work, you can also try setting air roll (the one that toggles controls) to RB and boost to LB.
Best of luck :happymeat:

My layout:

Binding boost and power slide to the shoulder buttons means I can press them both at the same time along with jump. Holding power slide while tapping boost and rotating lets me turn while on the ground a lot faster.

But yeah, down to personal preferance. I kinda wish I did this a lot sooner than 50 hours into the game, though. :P I still suck but it's made things easier since then.

E: Wait, this thread is a month old? Why was it on page 2 of GD?

Welp, accidental necro-post. Sorry folks.

Well controller settings are a personal thing, really, but what works particularly well for me is:

*LT- Reverse
*RT- Accelerate
*LB/L1 - Boost
*RB/R1 - Powerslide and Air Roll (General Rotation)
*A/Cross - Jump (Mine is faulty and either jumps twice or fails completely, but I got so used to it I can't just change buttons)
*B/Circle - Toogle Ball Camera On or Off
*X/Square - Use Item
*Y/Triangle - Scoreboard
*Pressing Right Analog Stick: Rear View
- Now a little trick I do thanks to my controller having two back buttons - which can't be assigned in-game but can mimic other buttons - although I barely even use those since I've never played with them from the beginning:
*Pressing Left Analog Stick - Air Roll Left, assigned to the back button on the left
*Select/Mode button (the one next to Pause) - Air Roll Right, assigned to the back button on the right
- I would say air rolling left/right is more of a novelty (some would disagree) but if you really want that in your controller and don't have extra buttons, you can just assign them to X/Square and B/Circle, re-assign the Toogle Ball Camera to Y, then Scoreboard to Select/Mode and Use Item to Pressing Left Analog Stick (or vice-versa).

But, FAR more important than the controller configuration, I highly recommend that you properly adjust your Camera, Control and Video settings (if you haven't already). You can search for what Pros use on YouTube videos, but it's generally something like this (link below) although you may want to adjust somethting in case you feel more comfortable with a higher or lesser dodge deadzone for instance, or use a Steering/Aerial Sensitivity of 1.0 instead of my 1.1, some things are more personal and, obviously the resolution changes according to your monitor, but as far as FPS goes use whatever your PC can handle regardless of your monitor Hz supporting it or not, because that makes your input time faster since the game registers your inputs with each frame (something like that, idk how to explain it perfectly but it does): https://imgur.com/a/rocket-league-settings-recommendation-Fz8HOud.
