Because that game is my favorite out of the 2 classic games in this batch,
The plot of Last Revelation and The Angel of Darkness is much deeper and full of cutscenes than that of the first three games, Chronicles is a collection of four different adventures with a common focus, but unrelated to each other.
If you already know what happens in The Last Revelation then you could easily play Chronicles first, otherwise you would be spoiling a significant detail that is at the heart of the Chronicles plot.
I'll play them in order, but damn if I'm dying to see how they fixed The Angel of Darkness.
I'm tempted to start fresh with AoD, which I'll need to relearn from scratch, then return to the classic TR gameplay I'm already familiar with.
But if it happens like with the first remaster, playing them in chronological order will be probably the better choice. TR III (and especially its expansion) were the weakest and most barebones parts of the first remaster on release, needing more fixes and improvements than the first two games. And honestly, I'm not confident that AoD of all things will be in an optimal state on release.
I agree with you, Chronicles had fun levels, people were saying they were too linear after Revelations, but the levels/hubs in that game were a chore to play though. Angel of Darkness might be neat if they do any fixes to it.
Chronicles has very good variety and is set up similar to how 3 was.
Although the one I'm more likely to play first is Angel of Darkness to see if they have managed to make the game playable. It's the only tomb raider game I have never completed.
Angel of Darkness is the one that catches my attention the least, it looks quite different from the rest and it was also supposed to be a trilogy that, due to its commercial failure, was never made, so it's an unfinished story. More than a remaster it would need a remake.
Thanks everyone for the replies.
Yeah I'm tempted to play AoD first because I'm very interested to see what they do with it, but I'm in agreement that it could well end up being the one needing the most polish in post-release patches. Given what we saw in the initial trailer, AoD looked to need a lot of visual polish, compared to the other two that looked very good already.
