Which one will you play first?
I played Tomb Raider III for the first time in the remaster and I really loved it.
Without a doubt my favorite is still Tomb Raider I. However, I have thoroughly enjoyed every game in the previous trilogy.

One thing I have noticed is that it doesn't seem to matter which order you play them in. I really think only the first one has a solid plot. The others are just an excuse to make sense of the game and sometimes even the dialogue in the cutscenes is hard to make sense of.. but it doesn't really matter.. a good game with accompanying cutscenes :)

That said, and from the little I have seen of this new trilogy, Tomb Raider V (Chronicles) is the one that has caught my attention the most, it seems like they have given it a darker, perhaps even somewhat macabre, feel.
I'm really curious to play it and see what the game holds.

What do you think of this trilogy?
Does it matter which order you play them in?
Which one will you play first and why?

The plot of Last Revelation and The Angel of Darkness is much deeper and full of cutscenes than that of the first three games, Chronicles is a collection of four different adventures with a common focus, but unrelated to each other.

If you already know what happens in The Last Revelation then you could easily play Chronicles first, otherwise you would be spoiling a significant detail that is at the heart of the Chronicles plot.

I'll play them in order, but damn if I'm dying to see how they fixed The Angel of Darkness.

Not decided what to do this time yet.

I'm tempted to start fresh with AoD, which I'll need to relearn from scratch, then return to the classic TR gameplay I'm already familiar with.

But if it happens like with the first remaster, playing them in chronological order will be probably the better choice. TR III (and especially its expansion) were the weakest and most barebones parts of the first remaster on release, needing more fixes and improvements than the first two games. And honestly, I'm not confident that AoD of all things will be in an optimal state on release.

I agree with you, Chronicles had fun levels, people were saying they were too linear after Revelations, but the levels/hubs in that game were a chore to play though. Angel of Darkness might be neat if they do any fixes to it.

The Last Revelation is excellent so probably that
Chronicles has very good variety and is set up similar to how 3 was.

Although the one I'm more likely to play first is Angel of Darkness to see if they have managed to make the game playable. It's the only tomb raider game I have never completed.

I love TR IV but I HATE the hubs lol
Loved Tomb Raider 4. Never played 6 and never finished 5 because of the horrible controls and camera.

Since I haven't played The Last Revelation, I'll play them in order to avoid spoilers.

Angel of Darkness is the one that catches my attention the least, it looks quite different from the rest and it was also supposed to be a trilogy that, due to its commercial failure, was never made, so it's an unfinished story. More than a remaster it would need a remake.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I play them in order plus TR4 is my favorite so there is that too

Just the normal order. I only played 1, 2 & 3 on PS1 back in the day. After that i got myself a gaming PC and started playing FPS, RTS and combat fightsims mostly. Only Tomb Raider title that i play after that was TR1 Anniversary. Now i will get the chance to finally finish the serries.

Yeah the three games are linked, so it makes more sense to play them in order if you don't already know the stories. There's not that much of a story cross-over but it's enough to reveal a big event if you play them out of sequence.

Yeah I'm tempted to play AoD first because I'm very interested to see what they do with it, but I'm in agreement that it could well end up being the one needing the most polish in post-release patches. Given what we saw in the initial trailer, AoD looked to need a lot of visual polish, compared to the other two that looked very good already.

Probably AOD, just to see if they fixed it. Plus it is one of my old favourites, it was so dark and edgy at the time xD.

Chronological order. AOD Remastered is my dessert.
