Sheet metal vs Stone What is stronger?
Stone has 500 hp Sheet metal has 300, so is stone better than sheet metal bases? Thanks! A bit rusty and returning after time off.

stone for sure. Sheet metal is easy to get through although it is harder with tools.

Sheet metal is slightly better against tools than stone, but is weaker against explosives.
(One C4 breaks Sheet metal wall, stone requires two)

good to know. So many pickers chopping at stone, so I guess Ill mix it up til I can afford armor

Actually, you guys are all partly right but partly wrong.

Sheet Metal
Pros:
-Resistant to tool damage
-Damages tools faster
-Literally eats bullets (bullets do about 0.2 damage per shot)
-Overall more resistance to damage
-Conceals damaged wall (hides weak spot from raiders)
-More stable

Cons:
-Vulnerable to explosives
-Weak against rockets/grenades
-Responds to temperature more
-Less health

Stone
Pros:
-Completely sealed
-More resistant to explosive damage
-Higher health

Cons:
-Less heat-insulating (get cold faster)
-Very vulnerable to tools
-Fairly easy to break
-Same resistance to damage as wood
-Easy to spot damage
-Is destroyed overall quicker than metal
-Slightly unstable

You Sir, are a Hero,

But then, I have some more noob quesitons on the subject.

Consireing that it will take quite a while for me to be able to upgrate everything to armored, should I leave things in stone or upgrade everything to sheet of metal?

The game itself treats sheet of metal as an upgrade from stone. Is it still only 1 C4 needed to break a sheet of metal wall? (if so makes no sense to have an armored door on a sheet of metal house).

So far I have only seen houses built either of wood or stone, sheet of metal does not seem to be a popular choice.

How long does it take to break a stone wall using tools? I guess this isnt really pratical to do.

If I recall correctly, they made some changes since this topic was made, all building types are now more resistant against tools if they're facing properly.
(Outer wall is facing outside of the base, so it is more resistant than the wall inside of the base)

But most of people leaves their base as stone because it is still more resistant against explosives.

7 pick axes if stone is on weak side. 25 Pick axes if on good side. With 3 people pick axing a stone wall, it will fall in under 10 minutes.

My advise, if your able, is to mix it up, but generally Stone seems favored over sheet metal atm

In servers with a generally richer population, especially with the latest game changing update, you should start to see a ton more metal houses. I personally see them all the time.

Also, the advantage metal has over stone is, it basically eats bullets and melee attacks. Their only weakness is c4, so if i were u I'd have a shell of metal encasing an armored center.

This way if someone is brave enough to use c4 on the outside they'll be greeted with armor on the inside.

If only stone and metal is available, have a metal shell and stone center.

Sheet metal over stone should have probably been included after that last high-quality metal update.

Metal is resistant to all types of damage except explosives. Stone is resistant to explosives but can be torn down by a tool.
