Other basebuilding, wave based survival games
Hello everyone,

I love 7 Days to Die. It perfectly scratches that itch of a 1st person, base building, survival, pve game with the additional pressure of wave based survival on the Horde Nights.

Only problem is my friend doesn't want to play because they don't like Zombies.

Does anyone else know of any games that are similar to 7DTD, but don't have zombies in them? I don't think they exist but thought I should ask anyway.

Thanks in advance.

No survival aspect, but Sanctum 2 might be interesting to check out.

Planet explorers might be a decent bet, very different in many aspects but it has some similarities and it just went free to play. It can be a bit tedious though.

I backed that game before it released and then they removed the multiplayer aspect of it. I really don't think there is anything like 7DtD out there, it's truly one of a kind.

Yeah, after they lost the code for the multiplayer I think it kinda broke them. Especially since the multiplayer system was no longer supported. Poor buggers. Still, pretty fun singleplayer if you ask me. I'd say I definitely got my money's worth.

Also, there is Conan Exiles, radically different, but it has the survival, building, and wave based nature via the purges. If you pick it up, be warned the multiplayer is cranky.

Weird to say this, but with some of the new updates Minecraft actually has some of the elements, but it's still pretty light on the survival

Don't Starve, while radically different, does have some of the wave based nature, is very heavy on the survival elements, and has some basebuilding, albeit much different.

There is The Forest, but I've not personally played it so I can't speak to it very well.

I think there are a few others (this style of survival game is kinda my schtick so I've been hunting around for them for a while)

There are also factorio (not my favorite, too many moving parts for me personally) and Raft (also haven't played it, but the idea of taking your base with you certainly sounds appealing)

There really is no other game like 7dtd. The good news is that the one friend who didn't want to play; got tired of being left out of the conversations so we got them to play after all.

The Forest is a great choice but you are replacing zombies with crazy cannibals, Conan Exiles (although it's UI sorta sux a bit), then of course you always have ARK, it's probably the best choice for a co-op game with survival and creature interactions, (plus you get to ride Dinos).

ARK - like this as a survival game, but with dinosaurs instead of zombies. And dinosaurs instead of vehicles. And instead of power tools: dinosaurs. You get the idea.

There isn’t a horde night per se, but occasionally you’ll run into Alpha Dino’s, and they will wreck your s**t.

As someone with a lot of hours in ARK though, I’ll tell you this: I wouldn’t play it unmodded, or on pvp servers. At a minimum, Structures Plus mod is needed to make building work without being a pain, and triple gather rates/triple speed taming unless you want to spend significant amounts of grind time in the game. It’s a good game if set up right though, and there’s a lot to do in it. You will die a lot though.

Empyrion shares several elements with 7DtD:
-Basebuilding
-survival
-exploration
-AI Attacks on the base
-similar MP functionality

Basebuilding and exploration are great (probably better than in 7DtD), but survival and the AI attacks are inferior to 7DTD.
But you can travel lots of different planets, and build your own spaceships and cool bases.

My biggest hope for base building is 7dtd, Solace Crafting, and Alchemist's Awakening. :7days:

Not sure if it is multiplayer but They are Billions is one to consider. Very steam punk as well.

IMO Empyrion is the GOAT of building by far. Power-building features like symmetry, copy/paste, painting and texturing, plus a very well-done creative mode. There really is no equal.

But if you like to build big, EGS recently added a hard limit to the complexity of your builds. Hopefully, the limits will ease back with balancing and optimization.
