Where to get mods
I tried to get mods from Nexus, which had me install Vortex. This was very difficult for me to understand and it broke my game. I uninstalled Vortex and the HUD mod was still active in my game. Anyway, Could someone please tell me where I can find Mods? I'm new to modding so be kind. I'm looking for a nice HUD and a bigger backpack. Thank you.

You don't need vortex to download from Nexus. Choose the manual download option, then install the mod yourself. In many cases it's just unzip the download and move the unzipped content to the Mods folder you are using.

Another place to get mods is https://7daystodiemods.com/

Thank you. How do I know which Mod folder I am using?

If you aren't doing something to change the location it should be in

C:\Users\<yourwindowsusername>\AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie

If you don't have a Mods folder there, you can just create one, and then install the mods in that folder. There is also a Mods folder in the game folder. That apparently still works too but it was supposed to go away. It now comes with a mod called 0_TFP_Harmony. Don't delete that mod if you read instructions about cleaning out old mods, it's part of the game.

I've never used Vortex so I don't know what it's done and how you might have to clean up after it. If you do find other mods in either of the above locations you should probably delete those (except not the TFP mod).

Thank you very much for your help. I deleted everything that was related to 7d2d and TFP. Then did a fresh install. My location is on an SSD so E drive for me. I did find the folder with the harmony mod you mentioned. So that is where I will put my new mods. Thank you very much. A lot of people make fun of old newby gamers. But you took the time to help.

yeah umm that's the hard way to do it.

In your Steam library, right click 7d2d, and go down to manage and left click browse local files.

Once that window opens, look for your Mods folder. This is where you want to add your mods. Not maps. Just mods.

You should already have one folder in there named: 0_TFP_Harmony
DO NOT delete that Harmony folder. It needs to be there for your mods to work correctly.

yeah, umm, that's basically what tc did. There was a bit of extra cleanup needed because apparently vortex doesn't un-install things very well.

You're welcome. If we're lucky we all get old, but old doesn't mean you can't game. If you still have problems just ask, there are some helpful people here.

Ok, So I went to the 7daystodiemods site and went I click download it tells me to install 'view online manuals'. It says its a manual search extension for Microsoft Edge. Is this normal?
I figured it out. I kept clicking on an ad for something else. Too many ads clutter the site. Gotta be really careful. After further inspection I found where to download it. Works as intended!
