which map for darkness falls?
hey guys,

after two alpha 20 playthroughs i want to try something new. i heard good things about darkness falls and want to give it a try but i have no idea which map to use.

there are small, medium and large df premade maps. are those alpha 20 maps with the new cities? are there any specific df pois which would be missing in a new generated map?

All Khaine's maps are alpha 20 and include all the new city and refurbished POIs and he's made sure that they have all the necessary special POI placements to make your Darkness Falls experience great. There are biome map pictures if you care to see them found by pathing in your DF folder through 7 Days to Die>Mods>0-DarknessFallsCore>Worlds. Each world folder has a biome representation for you to see and that may help you choose which map you'd rather play on.

Size can also be a factor so note that the smaller maps, 6 and 8k, could possibly run better on less beefy systems. They are all very nice (currently playing in the 8K DFalls-Small1-NoCP. Just be sure you understand that this mod ramps up very quickly and is quite different from vanilla. You'll love it though! It's a blast!

i thought i would like it but oh boy. first day went by pretty normal, scavenged, did a quest, holed up on the second story of a building for the night.

i starved to death since i didn't find enough food or a grill to cook my meat and got food poisoning from eating apples, yummy :) . respawned at my bed to the sound of zombies pounding the walls. went outside to defend my makeshift base, there were about 20 zombies, mostly ferals and rads.

tried running away and take them one by one, no way with my stone club and bow :) died again, respawned again, sat cowering in my attic. the pounding started again. tried to fight them but again no chance.

not sure what to do here. maybe df and feral sense does not mix? i watched a df series on youtube, the guy had peaceful nights :)

Remember what I said about the game ramping up very fast? Well, do yourself a favor and TURN THE FERAL SENSE OFF... not only that, but start out at lower difficulty and get acquainted with how things work, the way you're supposed to. If you have to, turn zombies off for a couple of days and just READ READ READ your journal. He worked hard to include the changes for DF into the player's journal. You need to carefully determine which profession you want to start with and DO THOSE QUESTS. Get into his discord and read all the FAQs, ask questions and talk to those guys. Most are fairly cool though there are a few.. er.. anyway.

Also, FIND your trader! Their base can be camped in, but you'll need to defend them. He's strengthened the wall a good bit making defense easier, but the zombies can and will break in if you are not attentive and use your materials wisely.

Darkness Falls is a tremendous way to play 7 Days to Die. The story alone is worth the effort. Be careful who you watch on You Tube and keep in mind that they are doing what they're doing as ENTERTAINMENT! Normal players will never play the way they play. Be careful, stealthy and watchful until you have decent armor and weapons. You'll be much happier if you take the time to watch several You Tube players and then consider what they may be doing right and what they're doing just to garner thumbsup. Anyway, I really hope you enjoy it more. Remember, start again! You can do that as often as you want!

thanks for your long answer.

guess i'll try again tomorrow without feral sense and turned down from warrior to nomad to get the lay of the land :)

do you have any idea why there are no guards at the traders? did that get changed?
Khissi Mar 15, 2022 @ 8:56am
Oh yes! Khaine changed that for A20. I'm sure you've noticed the turrets surrounding the base and he's also upgraded the base walls significantly. This is to allow you, the player, the opportunity to reinforce and protect your trader, or let them get ganked (looking at you, Rekt) as you may desire. If you're willing to make and load all the ammo for those turrets, there is a generator ready to be filled with engines and fuel to power them.

i am now at day 20, playing on nomad, horde night every 10 days and quite enjoying it.

my first base is two houses over from trader hugh in a little town including an ever growing farm. since the desert and snow biome are on the other side of the wasteland (which i still dont know how to enter without dying to radiation :)) i wanted to relocate to the biggest city on the map in the south. but oh boy... i wanted to take over a POI at the outscirts of the city as my new base, not a chance.

while remodelling it my first screamer spawned. and brought in the first screamer horde. consisting of a few spitting vultures, cops, zombie bears and demos... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ :) i bailed out of there and managed to kill them of. started working on the base again, another screamer. even bigger horde.

guess it's not possible to build there playing solo unless the "base" is surrounded with turrets killing of screamers before building it :P
Khissi Mar 19, 2022 @ 12:16pm
It's absolutely possible! For one thing, the closer to the town/city you are, the more wandering zombies of higher 'level' will be about. Also, always, always, always crouch when hammering, and, especially, when breaking down anything metal. It reduces the buildup of area activity meaning that screamers will show up a bit less often. Consider a perimeter wall, dig a ditch, one block or two blocks wide around your wall, and fill that thing with those cone shaped wooden spikes. That will take care of screamers.

Then, realize that demo zombies, zombie bears and dogs, rads, cops and other assorted fun will come in some of the twice daily hordes as well as night stalkers and, later, behemoths and demons. Those guys are pretty good at just melting through blocks with fist attacks. You'll want to get to concrete then steel as soon as you can and spend as little time as necessary in your base. Being able to be mobile helps since you can draw them away from your base to get them dead if you've not been so masochistic that you've turned their run speed to crazy and you are willing to wear light armor. I'm not masochistic.... but, I do know that it takes a LOT of bullets to put down those harder zombies and I save my bullets for that. Melee for everything even remotely easier.

The radiation in the wasteland must be addressed or you'll die. You can wear a radiation suit, pieces dropped rarely from radiation suit wearing zombies and sometimes sold at traders, or make mods to put into your armor that will negate the radiation. It must be at 100% or you'll still suffer from radiation damage. That's a later game thing, though, and right now, you're at the best place you can be. Concentrate on learning the systems, getting more class books made (scrap every book and schematic you don't need for pages), upping your armor and weaponry and getting a garden in. Gardening is different and pretty fun!

Glad you're enjoying it!

Thanks for the info on the maps. Just had a look through them. I also just started and like op died....horribly (day 1) Lmao. Started a new game on the small and made it to day 3 so far, but thinking about re-starting on med map and a different class. Food isn't an issue (potatoes) but getting time to explore is difficult when I'm trying to get the basic needs to survive first. Not having a forge day 1 is killing me though. I'm so spoiled! :D

You will be successful! I had many 'start over' games before I finally made it through a complete story. It was amazing! You learn more every time and there is SO much to learn in this mod. Be easy on yourself and have fun. If it stops being fun, you've cranked it up too much or down too much, so do some adjusting. This mod WILL turn into some deadly crazy in later game and wowsers, it's a blast! Love my pewpew lasers!

This has been the most fun mod for me. but as my dear friend Khissi said it is different. you know those people that complain I'm bored now when they get to 'end game ' content...yeah not here boys and girls...
soulphreak Mar 26, 2022 @ 8:05am
i really love the mod, not sure if i am gonna be able to enjoy the vanilla game anymore... :)

i have another question though maybe one of you guys knows what's up. i am, no was, at wellness 231 but i am constantly losing wellness (no, not dying :)).

do demon attacks lower wellness? or the wasteland? could it be that advanced healing (which i took) is bugged?

i found a post from over a year ago claiming that this is the cause of losing wellness but there was never an answer.

I believe every time you take a hit you lose wellness. Any post from before the current build will be outdated, especially when it comes to game bugs or game issues. Your wellness is not a permanent buff so don't treat it like one. With one wrong battle you could find yourself starting at 100 again. >:)

Not really every time you take a hit... but, being set on fire, getting irradiated and critical injuries like broken bones reduce your wellness. Just buff it back up with food/drink/vitamins etc. And, yes... it's annoying and a part of the system that makes it so wonderful! Being stealthy, being careful, those things that you just run through and bash or spray-n-pray have consequences here. So, you will either LEARN to be better, or stay down in wellness. It's cool!

Thanks for the clarification on the wellness. I'm loving this mechanic of the game. It makes having all those different foods and drinks have purpose, which I will admit overwhelmed me at first. More food options is something I always wanted in vanilla, but when actually faced with what I thought I wanted I had a few moments of doubt. I gave myself a good kick and told myself to only concentrate and enjoy what I could cook and worry about what I could't or didn't have ingredients for later.

Now I'm faced with moving. (Can't live at the traders for ever ya know, lol) The amount of spawns, day/night/wondering/wild, have definitely put a kink into what I normally do. It's been a while since I've had to think outside the box. Frustrating, challenging, and fun all rolled into one. It makes my brain hurt sometimes...Lol.
