New overhaul out - Afterlife
Afterlife is designed to be an immersive, hardcore, survival overhaul that works with and supports cooperative multiplayer.
Here's a (non-comprehensive) list of some of the mod's features:
- Full "action skill" system- All attributes and skills are action skills. There are no traditional levels.
- All perks are new/custom.
- No time, compass, or map to start with. These items must be acquired,
- No traders or quests (for now; an alternative is being worked on).
- Vitality system. A "general well-being" resource that can be managed in many ways.
- Reworked biomes (forest and desert in particular).
- Reworked world lighting.
- Wasteland megacity (make sure you use RWG with the mod running).
- Several classes and class selection on game start.
- Custom equipment slots including torch, backpack, watch, map, and compass.
- 3 new tool/weapon tiers including scrap, bronze, and inconel,
- Izayo•s weapon packs, so lots and lots of guns (fully integrated with progression).
- IJI rework.
- 6 new •mineables",
- Forge heat system.
- Permanent infection (don't worry, it's manageable).
- Quantity/liquid storage system using glass jars as main item container.
- Weight + backpack capacity inventory system.
- "Dye Tub" enabling crafting of 512 different dye colours.
- "Cartography Table" for sharing map information with allies.
- "Training Dummy" for when you're too scared to go out at night.
- Improved rain effects.
- Some optimisations to try and squeeze a bit more FPS out of the game.
- Blueprint-based building system.
- Various QoL hotkeys (can be seen in-game in the vanilla "info panel").
- And lots of other stuff!
Please see the in-game credits to see what modders and artists made this mod possible.

Maybe because it is still V1.0. 7 Days to die is now on V1.1
Yes, downgrading 7DTD from 1.1 back to 1.0 will fix the problem.

I forgot about the 7D2D patch. Thanks.

For anyone else who can't remember, go into the Betas tab of the 7D2D Steam settings and pick the 1.0 stable rather than the 1.1 stable.

I'm a huge 7d fan, and there are some really good overhaul mods out there--but this is the crown jewel so far. The changes made to the game drastically draw the game out longer and make it difficult enough to keep it interesting. There are so many amazing changes, but most notably are 1. Zombie AI changes, 2. Food & Water changes 3. Encumbrance changes, 4. Learn by doing, and 5. Immersive realism.

The decor system is genius, as well as the Vitality system. No more cheesy nerd blocking, massive hordes of zombies everywhere, no reticle, terrifying zombies (♥♥♥♥♥♥ blue eyes).

This mod is head and shoulders above what used to be considered the best overhaul mods, which I wont mention, cause they are still awesome in their own right. If you are a 7d fan, AND an experienced 7d'er, I would highly recommend this overhaul for a few dozen playthroughs. If you are new to the game, I wouldnt say dont play it, but you might find it a bit difficult and I imagine trying to play vanilla after this would just be boring.

Yeah trying to get dedicated server up and running too. Is there a walk thru on it or video on basics for setup for afterlife.
I usually run the steam CMD for that. any help or direction on where to get help would be appreciated.
happy to share with others if I figure it out. :-)

just to note. It runs fine from my gaming PC from the mod launcher. .. I just want to move it to a dedicated server with Steam CMD instead

Hi, are you find solution for this ? because i want to create dedicated server on linux too
Sadly, the help on discord for this mod was terrible. I tried to set this mod up using 7DTD 1.0 and 1.1 and both times I had crashing problems. I went to the discord to see if an update might be in the pipe and got nothing but grief from the admin there. He was so insulted that I would say that his mod was crap. So touchy.
I played quite a bit already and finally i was able to craft the map, get enough books to be able to craft better stone tools... I think these are really big progression points. Day 6 or something and turned off blood moons. Imagine trying to build an arena for zombies when i can't even sustain myself...

The main problem is WATER. I spawned in the forest in an area where there are no pools of water anywhere (first world i tried had a cabin with a watery trench). I found a great camp to build a base there with some traps all around and even managed to wander through the not so nearby city to loot. I really like the skills and how you gather some materials. The zombies also have different ranges depending on their eyes (what type they are), which is great, although zDogs are a pain still... There are quite a few great ideas. Lack of map early on is a nightmare... Especially when you wander through the forest with no sense of direction. 1st world i never found the city... On the 2nd, i decided to see where it is on the World Gen Preview, otherwise i'd just wander aimlessly and die countless times.

So i found only two pots... Not enough to sustain myself yet and apart from getting pounded to death quite a few times (because i was dehydrated and couldn't fight back), i also died of dehydration... Next step i think i will be moving closer to the city to be able to use any sinks or even small pools of water to set up the filtration on the campfires. Rain collectors suck big time... With the amount of water needed and the resources required, i'd have to have like 10 to be calmer about my situation. I understand it aims to be hard, but... The worst part is that the basic clean water only gives 20 water back... if it at least gave 40 or something...

Or perhaps in all of this i'm missing something? Should i drink infected water until i die of infection instead of trying my best to drink safe things? Food i somehow manage...

I don't think you're missing something. In the city you can get fluids from coffee machines, Megacrunch machines, random water containers, etc., which makes a huge difference while you work on a more stable supply.

I think a wilderness POI is just too hard to make a permanent base in (and with all the trees, it's pretty hard to find other POIs out there too). Even if it does have a water source, it'll take a long time before you can make extra pots for boiling. Also hard to find enough jars (it doesn't seem like you can make those?).
Unless perhaps you just accept that you'll have a permanent infection (granted, we'll probably all get that sooner or later, but so far I've avoided it), but I don't know how much infected water even hydrates, or if it causes other bad things.

The biggest problem i feel is finding a city in the first place. On my first attempt i was going all around in different directions (without compass it's hard to maintain a direction, especially with all the Zeds around), but i couldn't find it on my own. Using the Random Gen Previewer feels a bit like cheating, but i find it the only real option if you want to on day 1 or 2 get to urban areas.

Having that in mind, i definitely took a wrong approach by trying to stay in the forest. Also, i didn't go further into quests past putting down the piles (they dissapeared and i forgot to check the quests tab). Would that help me a lot? I dunno, but it would be really helpful to know my options before i get really low on hydration and not be able to fight...

So that's a triple problem really. You need to establish a base fast to get "rested" buffs, set up ASAP to put time into finding water sources and drinkables (as well as food), with all of that without a good direction nor knowing where you were already... Dwindle too long and you're doomed... Or just "reset your hunger and thirst" after dying.

I've been following the trails. In my first game that did nearly take me into the wasteland and I had to spend a terrifying first night in a wilderness POI (it didn't help that I had chosen Sheriff and I didn't realize that the sunglasses they start out wearing actually make things darker, so everything was extra dark and scary. Which, in hindsight, is pretty funny), but on the second day I found a town.
In my second game I found a road and then a city on day one (so, unlike vanilla, Afterlife can have cities in the forest biome. I like that).

But yeh, it would be quite possible to get unlucky with the trails and getting a direction from the sun isn't easy in that dense forest, or when you don't know the time.

In my first game, I did actually find some jars, a cooking pot, stuff enough for making a bucket and there was also a tarp, plus a water source in the wilderness POI, but even at the fastest, boiling water is just so slow that I don't think I would have lasted long there.
Maybe if I'd found two or three cooking pots and a ton of jars, but that's a little unlikely.
So, I seem to have a problem loading this mod. I really hope you all can help me figure out whats going on.

So, installed the mod through the mod launcher last night, it installed just fine. However, every time I try to load the game, it crashes just before finishing the load. Like, crashes at the same point every time.

Today, I tried just installing the mods manually. I got them into the Mods folder of 7DTD, but when I went to load, it spat out a bunch of errors, stating it couldn't load the mods properly. So I went back to the mod launcher, fixed the installation, and now it's back to crashing on load.

I've tried reverting back to version 1.0, and the previous beta, nothing seems to help.

Did you perhaps delete the "0_TFP_Harmony" folder in Mods? It appears to be a mod, but it's part of the vanilla install and it's supposed to be there. Many mods rely on it now.
looking for a Server to play on.

I definitely had problems when using the most current version of the game, spewing out errors and not starting the game. I can present you my solution, which might work, it might help:
- Used the Beta option "v1.0 - Version 1.1 Stable" on the main game and let it update to the previous version
- In the 7MOD Launcher i created a "clone", allowing this mod to have its own folder with the game

why can't I put fuel in the generator, it's that a bug or did I missing something?

The green Jerry Can doesn't seem to work with generators. Try using fuel crafted in a Chemistry Station. I made Motor Fuel (red can) that worked for my generator.
