The instructions said to extract them to the game folder from steam browse local files. Uggghhh

That should be all there is to it, but you could check C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie\ for a 'Mods' folder; there's not supposed to be one there and it often leads to conflicts if there is one.
