[MOD] Combat Training Dummies
This adds combat practice dummies for combat training purposes.

The dummies can be used in focused quests to target certain skills, or be used on their own to just bash away on freestyle. There are quests for all major weapon groups (blunt, blade, archery, pistols, rifles, shotgun) that can be done once a day (on default 50 minute days), this is achieved by a long crafting time of 25 minutes, so it's probably best to make the lesson plans at the workbench and not in your inventory crafting...it's the only way I could keep this from becoming WAY to overpowered, and while I don't mind a little bit of a difficulty decrease with certain aspects in my mods..I don't want them to be an out and out cheat, so I try to balance things.

The quests are a tiny bit wonky because of the limitations of the (hopefully) nascent quest system. The goal "attack the dummy" (the 3rd, 5th, and 7th part of each training quest) gives the objective "gather training dummy", to do this you first have to attack the placed dummy and then pick it back up when enough damage has been done...it'll give you a "press <e> to pick up" prompt when enough damage has been done. You'll ABSOLUTELY need to be holding a weapon from the group you are doing the quest for in order to get credit for this step! Other than that, it's pretty straight forward. When you complete a training session, you'll be awarded with 3 skill points in your chosen combat skill.

Enjoy!

This mod requires SDX 0.6.0 in order to use.

Sigh - needs sdx. Outside my limitations. Sounded like a great questline, though. I had suggested something like that to Valmar, but getting a target and the game to recognize you had hit said target was problematic. Sounds like you solved it with having them pick up the target.

Cool. I had to just use hay bales and cacti ; ) (role playing only, not quest)

I could easily make a "haybale target" version without SDX...if you're willing to copy/paste into the appropriate xml files.

Here's a link to my non-SDX version. No files are included, so you'll have to do all the gruntwork yourself.

Thanks - copied all of it to a text file. Grunt work no problem - helps me learn. Can't wait to try it out. (Oh, just fyi - the quest file download was blocked - who knows why - by my computer, but the raw data copy and paste worked fine.)

Thanks again.

Not sure why it would be blocked, but it's really not something that needs to be downloaded...the raw data copy is all you need.

I was pretty certain that is the case - but the block was on my end (possibly you don't have Uncle Billy's stamp of MicroSoft approval, or that the site is on a list from the University server - seems we have been getting a lot of "we lock your computer, now you pay us 1 billion pretend money" situations, according to a report from our OIT people : )

Mostly just posted so anyone else would know to scroll down and copy / paste the raw data.

Unrelated question - sorry off topic, but you seem to have a lot of knowledge of the quest system parameters : )

Is there a way to have a quest goal set to check if a player 'hits" bedrock with a mining tool - or even just specifically while holding a pickaxe? It was a simple quest idea - "Diging to China", based on a thread topic on the main forum - I had never actually dug (in game) all the way to bedrock, so I actually did it, last night, just because I was bored waiting for the night to end (in game night).

It takes a while, but it makes that cool sound and has an interesting texture. And you end up gathering tons of rock resources for building ; )

No, the quest objectives don't detect any block activity aside from BlockPlace and UpgradeBlock. I couldn't even get it to recognize that I picked up a block properly, which is why when you pick up the dummy, it becomes an "item" with a "PlaceAsBlock" action property.

I'm hoping they add a lot more to the quest system after they introduce NPCs and questing becomes more of a part of the game.

Oh well. Bedrock had such a finality to it (for a mining quest). Thanks for the time / info.

I hope you are right (about them adding more functionality). Even simple questlines open up a lot of potential.
